FOTGH Plant Sale and Call for Volunteers!
In conjunction with campus Earth Day events, Friends of the GH will be selling plants on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, April 24 & 25. We need help on those days for setup and sales (sign up in the Science Building GH) and also help in preparing for the sale this Friday and next Monday from 1 PM until 6 PM, April 20 & 22. Prep activities will include plant grooming, making signs and labels, putting plants into sale blocks, and setting up propagation projects for future sales. Berkley Botanical Gardens

Dearest Flower Friends,
We collectively decided to take a trip to the UC Berkeley Botanical gardens this Friday ( Nov. 11th), in honor of our day off. I requested to have free entrance for about ten people around 1:30 pm. You can either meet us there at the entrance at that time, or if you live in the city & want to take Bart let me know. We will be meeting at Embarcadero Bart at 12pm, and leaving by 12:20 in order to get there in time. If you come from other areas in the bay, get off bart at Downtown Berkley, and from there walk to the top of campus where you will take the H-bus ( $1) to the gardens. I hope to see you all there, and please be on time because there is a lot to see. Enjoy the rest of your day. Also, if there is anyone driving who has extra room we could try to organize some car pooling. My cell phone number is 415.724.5368, or just shoot me an email.

Plant Sale & Terraiums !

Dearest Flower Friends,
I wanted to remind everyone of the plant sale this Wednesday from 11 until 5, and if you have time to come and help out. We will be having a work day tomorrow (Tuesday) for preparation, I'll be in the GH from 11 until 2, but come by anytime there are plenty of projects. Also, for the Terrarium building after word, at 5, please bring supplies and extra containers if possible. The Greenhouse will be donating some plants such as liverworts, tradescartia, and hydrocotyle for living terrariums, but non living terrariums are also an option if you have means for that (barks & dead flowers). Look online for ideas, and bring any you may find interesting. Hope you all have an amazing week, see you soon!

We are arranging a hike for October 7th and are trying to come up with
different places close by that we can venture to. Bring some ideas to

Hi All,
A meeting time for FOTGH this semester has been suggested: Mondays from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Will this work for you? Whatever day we meet, there will often be projects for those who can stay longer. A first meeting next week would provide an opportunity to experience the Miracle Fruit (a few are ripe now, but they don't last long). This small red fruit alters taste buds for 30 minutes to 2 hours so that sour things taste sweet. Bring a sour lemon and try it out!

Starting tomorrow, at the Old Greenhouse, with many small forgiving
succulents and unlikely desert plants (fleshy leafed pumpkins, obese
grapes). Also Martin's wide range of offerings, and miracle fruits. .

Help with FOTGH issues

Hi Bob,
Forgot to tell you I was going to Colombia in August. Got some great pics of Espeletia Paramo, but need to process them.
I'm having a problem finding anyone to be the check signer for FOTGH. There is lots of money in the account, but I can't buy this semester's materials without a check signer. Alex was supposed to pass on the responsibility, but just vanished toward the end of spring semester without signing the annual donation check for the Bio. Dept. graduation. He has failed to respond to phone calls and emails. He also didn't prepare me for his disappearance, so in giving him the benefit of the doubt and preserving his hours I lost $300 in student funding at the end of spring semester. He has left a lot of bad feeling.
