What is the good open source alternative of Dreamwaver (with syntax
hint facility)?

NVU Kompozer is similar to Dreamwaver.
But it is not that much powerful as Dreamwaver.

If you want to run dreamwaver under ubuntu there is a option to install dreamwaver with wine and PlayWithLinux tool.

hey it depends on wat purpose u need it
there lots of IDE
if u wanna auto completion for html then use screem

or quanta

for css coding "cssed" is good
http://cssed.sourceforge.net/

for php auto completion eclipse is good
http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/

but i have heard that netbeans has also done lots of work n its latest release netbeans 6.5 has just released
