I am very sorry to hear about this loss. The old military roads were not designed for high-speed travel and animals emerging from the brush so close to the road can be taken by surprise. Those same cars are a risk to the cycling and walking public as well for the very same reason.
We are not great stewards of our planet. The kin of that bob cat as well as the mountain lion recently seen near Gigling will be loosing more and more of their habitat in Fort Ord as our development continues to sprawl out over this beautiful land. The flora and fauna of the planet don’t vote but you do. The answer to what can be done is: become politically active and involved in land use policy.
