Hi,

I've worked on a mock-up over the weekend which I deem ready for
commenting. Please let me know what you think!

I made a mistake with the uploading of the mock-up's outline version,
rectified.

That is nice. So far this is the best mock-up I have seen done yet
(imho, sorry nixternal).

Thorsten, thank you for the mockup!

I'm very impressed. Some things I especially like:

* Localisation
* Download link / icon
* 2 columns - presents a lot of the information in an easy to read
fashion. I can also envision how this applies to subpages, probably
in one column
* Screenshot viewer (I assume this can be done through a bit of javascript?)

Love to hear other folks' thoughts.

Thanks again!

I really like this mockup.  I like quick access to a lot of information without overloading the user.  I really like the icon bar to select your language and the screenshot viewer.

Thanks,

Kevin

Yes, the inspiration comes from http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/static_simple.html

If javascript is off, the demo shows the thumbs as an unordered list
which is styleable, so having a box with overflow set to auto should
work.

jCarousel or something similar could be used for the latest news
section, too: http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/special_textscroller.html
as long as it works without Javascript (box with overflow set to
auto). That demo doesn't work without Javascript, because the contents
are pulled live from a newsfeed.

That mockup is pretty sexy. I can make it html + the js needed for the
screenshots part (it's not that hard.. smoothgallery from jon 4
ever :D).
Can you make some more based on the same style for the planet and
forum ? And how about the screenshot page ?

Can you code up a working prototype of the start page as a template
for other sub pages? I hear that a few people would like to get going
with the website and stuff and are a little tired of mock-up after
mock.up. I think we should just go from there. After all, I have no
idea what is wanted for the screenshot gallery (Light-/Thick-/
Whateverbox), so pulling something sane out of the hat is a little
problematic.

Maybe a final decision will be reached once people can actually
"touch" the design in a browser?

"Bitstream Vera Sans" and "Domestic Manners" for the tagline"

I coded Thorsten's mock-up. http://pomm.freetzi.com/foresight
It needs a bit more tweaking: -the fonts are not just right
-there is a problem with
the tagline and the margins in firefox
-i haven't added the
screenshot viewer
-the links in the content
should be green but for some reason they came out the default blue
(they appear correctly in dreamweaver)
I'll work on those...

popdog123,

Thank you for working on the code for the mark-up. We should have sent
out a message that we had already started on it however. There has
been a small team of 3 members (myself, Eric Lake and CoolGoose)
created to tackle the code in the timeframe we have been given. While
we are thankful that you have done so much work we feel that it we
need to stick with the team that we currently have until we get the
new site up. At that point we may need more to help with the
maintenance of the site.

We would love to have any comments on the site as we are putting it
together. We hope to have a working prototype up in the next week or
so and will announce it here on the list and on the wiki page which is
about to be created.

We hope that you understand where we are coming from on this. The last
thing we want to do is hurt anyones feelings.

Sincerely,

- Thorsten

No problem... it wasn't that much work anyway.

But i don't think i'll stick around... it seems you guys have a
complete team and don't need any more volunteers for the site.
I wish you good luck!
