Think Tank & All~

Another Monday seems to be proving that selling on Friday on the fear
of what the weekend will bring is NOT a winning idea!

At this hour, it would appear that the day will start with F in a GAP
UP!

But we are early yet, so it is probably just as well to take one last
look back at the results of Friday's game. Here 'tis:

----
While nsrb and John shared a common view of what the day would hold,
John ended up with a solid win ~ taking down a 3-bagger with best
HIGH, best LOW and best CLOSE. He then added the fourth star with the
best total variance!

A commanding performance on a difficult day! Well DONE, John

Empire State Mfg Survey

Released On 6/17/2013 8:30:00 AM For Jun, 2013

Prior Cons Cons Range Actl
GenBusCond Indx -1.43 0.50 -2.00to4.00 7.84

Market Consensus before announcement
The Empire State manufacturing index fell more than 4 points in the
May report to minus 1.43 for the first negative reading since January.
A negative reading indicates month-to-month contraction though, in
this case which was just barely below zero, only marginal contraction
compared to last month. The new orders index is a key detail in these
reports and, like the headline index, has turned negative for Empire
State but only slightly, at minus 1.17 versus plus 2.20 in April. This
points to a sluggish June for the overall index.

DJIA futures reported now at UP 116 pts and S&P UP 12.75 pts!

F just traded at 15.55 UP $.18 from the close on Friday.

Methinks we just might have a DOUBLE GAP UP Open.

Good New York Fed Manufacturing News Not as Good as It Looks

 Published: Monday, 17 Jun 2013 | 8:33 AM ET

Growth in the New York state manufacturing sector picked back up in June, but the details were less encouraging as new orders contracted further and measures of employment weakened, a report from the New York Federal Reserve showed on Monday.

The New York Fed's "Empire State" general business conditions index rose to 7.84 from minus 1.43 in May, topping expectations for zero. A reading above zero indicates expansion.

But the forward-looking new orders index fell to minus 6.69 from minus 1.17, while inventories tumbled to minus 11.29 from minus 7.95.

Employment gauges also worsened. The index for the number of employees slipped to zero from 5.68 and the average employee workweek index dropped to minus 11.29 from minus 1.14.

The outlook for firms was relatively resilient with the index of business conditions six months ahead edging down to 24.98 from 25.48.

The survey of manufacturing plants in the state is one of the earliest monthly guideposts to U.S. factory conditions.

I will be away this week sightseeing in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

My fears from Friday linger even though the general markets look positive.  Plan to sit in cash while I am away.

Will post when I can.
