Think Tank & All~
I'm looking forward to the comparison between Ford's sales numbers and
GM's. Ought to boost the price of F common another dime!
Anyway, here is a better summary of the Ford report:
----
Ford May U.S. New Vehicle Sales Rose 14% on Strong F-series Pickup
Sales 06/03 03-Jun-13 08:46:00
Ford Motor Co.'s (F:$16.04,00$0.36,002.30%) U.S. new-vehicle sales
rose 14% in May from a year earlier, reflecting strong demand for F-
series pickup trucks.
Results were ahead of expectations from car-shopping website
Edmunds.com.
Edmunds had projected Ford's May sales would increase 13% on the year.
Broadly, U.S. new auto sales for May are expected to rise 6.5% from a
year earlier and jump 11% from the prior month, according to Edmunds.
Ford said it sold 246,585 vehicles in the U.S. during May, up from
216,267 a year ago and 16% above April's total of 212,584.
The Ford brand, the company's largest, saw sales jump 14%, while
Lincoln sales edged up 0.4%.
Company-wide, May car sales climbed 9.4% and truck sales jumped 18%,
aided by a 31% rise in the sales of F-series pickups. Utility-vehicle
sales were up 15%.
Ford's Escape sales increased 26%, while Ford Fusion sales grew 10%.
May had 26 selling days both this year and a year ago.
Ford also said it plans to build 740,000 vehicles in the third
quarter, a 10% increase from the 673,000 vehicles produced a year
earlier.
The third-quarter plan includes the company's recent announcement to
add 40, 000 vehicles from a reduced July summer shutdown and the
addition of 200,000 units of annualized straight-time capacity
starting in the fall of this year.
Ford has been expanding its car portfolio, refreshing its F-series
pickup- truck line and reining in incentives as part of an effort to
boost its performance in the U.S. The company reported in April its
first-quarter profit climbed 15% as a record performance in the North
American division offset softness in other regions around the world.
Earlier Monday, Chrysler Group LLC reported its U.S. auto sales rose
11% in May, thanks in part to a double-digit percentage rise in Dodge
brand sales. Other major auto makers are expected to report their
monthly U.S. sales results later today.
Ford shares were recently trading 2.3% higher at $16.04.
