Disappointed by this news, although not really surprised. Methinks
some old history getting replayed again.

General Motors returning to S&P 500
By James O'Toole @jtotoole June 3, 2013: 6:50 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

General Motors is zooming back into the S&P 500.

S&P said Monday that the automaker will replace H.J. Heinz Co. (HNZ,
Fortune 500) in its index after the close of trading on Thursday.
Heinz is set to go private after announcing earlier this year that it
had agreed to be purchased for $28 billion by a consortium including
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA, Fortune 500) and private
equity firm 3G Capital.

The automaker was bounced from the S&P 500 around the time of its 2009
bankruptcy filing and $50 billion government bailout. It returned to
the New York Stock Exchange in 2010 and reported $1.1 billion in first-
quarter earnings last month.

S&P's announcement is likely to be welcomed by the Treasury
Department, which is in the process of selling off the GM shares it
acquired as part of the bailout. As a result of Monday's news,
managers of index funds tied to the S&P 500 will have to buy GM
shares, a development likely to boost their price.

General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) shares rose 3.2% in after-hours
trading Monday.

The government still owned 16.4% of GM as of April 1, according to the
company's most recent proxy statement, down from a high of 61%.
Taxpayers are unlikely to recoup a profit from the rescue overall,
though the Center for Automotive Research has estimated that the
bailouts of GM and smaller rival Chrysler saved 1.5 million jobs.

This is also not the type of news that I am eager to see (or share),
but it seems that it is the reality yet.

German KBA: May New Car Registrations Down 9.9% On Year 06/04 04-
Jun-13 03:05:00

FRANKFURT--German new car registrations declined again in May,
following a slight increase in April, the federal vehicle office
Kraftfahrtbundesamt, or KBA, said Tuesday.

A total of 261,316 new cars were registered in May, 9.9% fewer than a
year earlier. In the January-to-May period, registrations were down
8.8%.

The weak May number shows that the 3.8% increase in April wasn't a
trend reversal after the 2.9% decline in 2012.

Registrations of the Volkswagen brand declined 11.2% in the January-to-
May period, those of Opel fell 11.2% and Ford's declined 16%. German
premium brands fared better, with a 4.1% decline at Audi (AUDVF:
$799.75,00$-0.25,00-0.03%) , a 6.3% decline at BMW (BAMXF:
$96.00,00$0.44,000.46%) and a 2.3% decline at Mercedes-Benz. Porsche
registrations increased 3.1%.

The slump was particularly pronounced at Alfa Romeo with a 58% decline
and Lancia with a 60% decline. Peugeot registrations fell 32% and
those of Citroen 26%, KBA said.

Today will only have about 3 economic reports coming out. They are:

ICSC-Goldman Store Sales @ 7:45 AM ET

International Trade @ 8:30 AM ET

Redbook @ 8:55 AM ET

----

Not to say that retail is unimportant, but methinks that the
international trade numbers are more likely to impact the general
markets.

All:
Looks like I missed today's 'blue light special' sale.  Did anyone get to the check-out counter in time?  We may get some of our day trading members back to the forum if this volatility continues for a few days

Wish I was around at the right time to hear the blue light announcement.

Set a low buy this morning, but now I see that it was not low enough.

I got lucky yesterday. Caught a few hundred shares a penny off the bottom.  Can't be lucky everyday.   Sometimes they do advertise in advance of a sale, but it is only with hand bills and you need to be hanging around in a lobby on Wall Street to get the word.
