This Thursday, April 26th, at Columbia College Chicago (1104 South
Wabash Ave, 1st fl), Potluck: Chicago will be taking part in the
Critical Encounters Student Showcase. Critical Encounters is a college-
wide civic engagement initiative to synchronize conversations between
the school and the community in an ongoing dialogue around a socially
and culturally relevant issue each academic year. This Showcase will
celebrate over 200 students' work that has engaged with this year's
focus "Rights, Radicals, + Revolutions."

For the Critical Encounters Showcase, Potluck: Chicago will present a
“taste” of the project’s history and whet appetites for what is yet to
come. Motivated by a belief in collective action and inspired by
collaboration with Hull House, we are soliciting contributions of
vegetables, and spices for the tasting, from Columbia College and its
neighbors to enact the fable of Stone Soup. As the pot simmers for
hours, we will stir up conversation by asking contributors and
visitors, “Why do you share a meal with others?” We will invite
participants to record these memories on postcards, which we will then
return via post, a quiet reminder to gather with others and eat
together more often. Once the soup has fully cooked and simmered, we
will invite evening visitors to taste the results of the collaborative
effort and encourage them to add their own spice to taste. Using the
soup as a metaphor for gathering resources in a time of need, the
Showcase will act as a platform to discuss how the project will
continue to flourish beyond Columbia.
