Ingest|Digest|Protest, Sun day 4/22, 1-3 pm

Ingest|Digest|Protest is a performative and interactive screening
comprised of numerous short films and video performances by artists
from around the country and international artists. The show ties
together not only the artists' imagery with the curators' vision, but
further the audience can also share in the synchronicity of the show
by eating food specifically designed to coincide with each
performance.
Grand Valley State University artists reach out to a community beyond
the campus to share their inspiration derived from the biological
drive to eat. Issues regarding the motives, politics and desires
behind consumption manifest themselves within our society with varying
impacts. American consumers are attempting to make informed decisions
about what they ingest. This show asks the audience to consider in
whose best interest our current system acts in favor of, and
contemplate if there ways that we can look at nutritional sustenance
with the same degree of scrutiny we apply when confronting other
material desires. Ingest|Digest|Protest will be a two hour screening
of a collection of works selected by a jury of five Grand Valley State
University students who have been actively developing this theme, and
will be curating a show which they feel appropriately deals with the
desires, motives, and politics behind the consumption of food. Artists
featured in this show come from a variety of locations such as
Kentucky, New York, and the Netherlands; and institutions such as
Grand Valley State University and the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago. Each video is unique yet collectively reflects the
inspiration of the overarching theme of the politics of food and the
ethics of eating.
