hi folks:

This question is addressed to the artists here on the listserve.  How many of you are on Reverbnation and have uploaded songs for listening?   Have you also signed up with their online selling?

I am with CD Baby for digital sales, and I don't believe you can have two companies selling your stuff digitally.  I'm wondering what your experience is with al this.

Also, have any of you been solicited by, or are using Indierhythm.com to sell your CDs online?

Thanks!

Good question, Robin. Thanks for bringing it up.
We use CD Baby (currently 18 titles with them)  because of its thorough digital distirbution network, as well as diligent bookkeeping.
We've never liked Reverbnation -- it's too "pushy" for our tastes, and full of template and boilerplate distractions.
Indierhythm appears to work OK, but with CD Baby's nearly universal distribution to some 35 download services, it would be redundant and effort-duplicating if not unethical to use them as well.
We also are registered with Soundexchange, which tracks and collects royalties for online broadcast. We've had an excellent experience with them, as well as with CDBaby.

I'll be interested to hear what others  have to say.

Read you terms and conditions with CDBaby.com... they have changed over the years but in essence you CANNOT have two BROKERS (CDBaby is a broker) attempting to represent you with a single distribution entity (i.e.iTunes...)  That is more the distribution enty's rule than CDBaby as when someone buys or samples you they need a SINGLE place to credit the revenue to...

I had another digital distribution source (Nimbit) for years (and still do) that I deal directly with and it hasn't presented itself as a problem for either them or CDBaby as they don't have a relationship together..

I'm on ReverbNation and have uploaded songs for listening, but for digital sales through iTunes etc etc I use CD Baby, who have been wonderful from day one and provide brilliant customer service as does their sister company HostBaby. I also do digital (and physical) sales from my own website via BandCamp, another company I highly recommend.
