Ok, I think I finally tracked down and added every email address I was given. Hi guys!
I'm going to look into setting up an account for us on signup genius so we can make sure at least one person is responsible or making sure everything gets cleaned up and put away every week for sure.
Also, last week was the end of our glorious farmers market bounty, so looking for new sources of food and donors to get us through winter is important! I'm going to contact some friends at Whole Foods, and I hear Trader Joes is super happy to donate, and Marcus is looking into possibilities downtown. If anyone has any other possibilities they would like to pursue, our shared documents on google as well as the website contain a cover letter from us to potential donors as well as a copy of the Bill Emerson act that relieves businesses of liability for donations made in good faith. Mention that since we are under the umbrella of Virginia Organizing we also have the benefit of donations being tax deductible. We also need to make sure people doing pick ups are available for any new donors we might get. I don't drive so I'm not very familiar with this end of things, just wanted to put that out there for people who are or can be.
In terms of staples people would like to have on hand for cooking, does anyone have any requests? Our treasury has funds to buy any herbs, spices, or bulk goods we might need, and if we have a wants list i can post it on the website as well so anyone with extras of something knows we could use it. :)
There are so many new people who are interested in helping us out, I'd love to see us do more to be a little antagonistic and active outside of our role as a food pantry. It doesn't take many people to cook and hand out groceries but starting conversations and promoting ideas is feeding minds. I'm not able to take a leading role in this right now, but I can offer to help promote anything any individual wants to take a stab at. Don't be afraid to step on toes!
Thanks again guys!
