Description: Discussion regarding FMPS, or Free Music Player Specs, an effort to have workable cross-player compatibility for difficult fields like rating and playcount.

FMPS v1.1 released
FMPS v1.1 has been released. This release changes behavior in one way: it specifies escaping of colons, semicolons, and backslashes, as discussed on the xdg list. [link] Thanks, Jeff

FMPS v1.0 and triple colon escaping
...1) is the correct answer, according to the spec, but I see why you say that it's more difficult to split correctly. I wish you'd brought this up earlier sometime in the past year of the spec's development... :-) ...This was discussed at some point but that solution wasn't preferred, because you still have to do a replacement over the string, and it makes... more »

FMPS v1.0 and the "FMPS Alliance"
Greetings, I'd like to announce the release of v1.0 of FMPS, found at [link]. I want to thank those that contributed to helping define it and make it something that should be very workable. The specification stays away from mandating specific values, instead... more »

FMPS Draft 4 posted
Draft 4 has been posted. The entire spec has gone through a major rewrite/cleanup, separating out information into subsections for easier referencing. In addition, to get around the identifier-UTF8 problem, "lists" are defined and used throughout the spec. This actually has resulted in (I believe) quite a bit more cleanliness in the overall design.... more »

FMPS Update
Hello, I finally have time to really dig down into this and work on it some more...I have a few things on my plate that were requested by various people, such as the RFC-style language, the addition of some common play stats, and so on, but I've hit a roadblock. Cristoph Reiter contacted me mentioning that although VorbisComments... more »
