About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for various
firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects and
allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI and
policy compilers are completely independent, and support for a new firewall
platform can be added to the GUI without any changes to the program (only a
new policy compiler is needed). This provides for a consistent abstract
model and the same GUI for different firewall platforms. It currently
supports iptables and ipfilter.
Changes: This version comes with a new objects discovery method which crawls the net
sending SNMP queries to hosts. It also includes a number of improvements to
the iptables policy compiler, and bugfixes for some problems reported
during testing of 0.9.2.

netmask on all new network objects, and the compile problem on systems
without SNMP libraries.

Changes: Core API is now packaged in a separate package named libfwbuilder.
User-defined objects can be displayed in a separate tree so they won't mix
up with standard objects, "Find Object" function has been added,
"Host OS" parameter has been added to the Firewall object, and a
number of OS-related options can now be set for the firewall object.

Changes: This version supports single floppy router/firewall "floppyfw". The
combination of Firewall Builder and floppyfw makes for a great firewall
appliance. We have also added support for filtering by MAC addresses, a
"multiport" module, and some other features available in iptables. The GUI
does not depend on GNOME libraries anymore, and can work on systems with
KDE if gtk+ and gtkmm libraries are installed.

This version includes a new experimental policy compiler for iptables
(fwb_ipt). This compiler comes in the package called fwbuilder-ipt, and is
based on libfwbuilder API, just like compilers for OpenBSD pf and ipfilter.
The old policy compiler is now in freeze mode so that the switch to the new
one could happen as soon as possible.

This release repairs bugs reported for the new policy compiler for iptables
fwb_ipt. The new compiler is now used by default to produce firewall
policy scripts, although the old one is still available as a separate
package. This is the last release compatible with the old compiler, which
is going to be discontinued soon.

This is a bugfix release. It fixes a bug that caused the firewall script to
break during transfer to the firewall if any of the rule or object comments
used non-English UTF-8 characters. The generated firewall script will
properly load iptables modules on 2.6 kernels. A few other minor bugs have
been fixed. The code compiles with g++ 4.1.

A bug introduced in 2.1.15 that broke the generated firewall script for
iptables if the option "use iptables-restore" was on is fixed in this
release. Additional checks were added to the generated script for iptables
to improve error detection and make sure the GUI properly detects when it
terminates with an error. Support for load balancing with PF was also
added.
