About: Nut allows you to record what you eat and analyze your meals for nutrient
composition. It includes the USDA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference,
Release 11, which contains nutritional values for 5,635 foods. Nut lets you
search this list of foods and view nutrient values for different serving
sizes. You may also rank foods in order of level of a particular nutrient.
You may change the daily calorie level to correspond to your personal
metabolism, and the levels for fat, carbohydrates, and fiber are
automatically adjusted. You may add your own recipes to the database, by
creating them from the foods in the database.

Changes: Complete information is now included for the polyunsatured fatty acids,
including Dr. William Lands' equation for the percentage of Omega-6 and
Omega-3 fatty acids in tissues based on diet. A "daily value" percentage
has been arrived at that is midway between the Mediterranean and Japanese
levels. Although the program mostly follows the food labeling standard for
the so-called "daily value", you can now set the ratio between
carbohydrates and protein, a convenience for those who choose higher
protein, lower carbohydrate diets than the mainstream recommendations.

Changes:

from the analysis screens, makes "food suggestions" stop after 19 foods,
fixes a bug where recording a meal with no foods caused "rank foods per
recorded meals" to report "there are no meals in database", changes "Est
plipid Omega-6" field name to "Omega-3/6 Balance", and reformats the field
value as two numbers that add up to 100%.

Changes:
Now when Nut asks what you are having to eat, you can answer "the usual"
and pre-recorded customary meals are copied into regular meals in one
step. Also, this version allows foods to be subtracted, i.e., entered in
negative quantities. Bugfixes include a fix for a lock on essential fatty
acid values that would not go away, and a fix for occasions when
customizing protein and carb values caused protein, carbs, and fat not to

About:
nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your meals for
nutrient composition. The database included is the USDA Nutrient Database
for Standard Reference, Release 15, which contains 6,220 foods. This
database contains values for vitamins, minerals, fats, calories, protein,
carbohydrates, fiber, etc., and includes the essential polyunsaturated
fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed as a percentage
of the Daily Value, the familiar standard of food labeling in the United

States, but also can be fully customized. Recipes can be added. The
program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.

Changes:
This release introduces graphs of daily and monthly trends.

Changes:
This release changes the way default essential fatty acid values are
chosen. Each default change of values causes the program to solve Lands'
equation for estimated n-6 hufa in plasma phospholipids to refigure the
Omega-6 values. This release also changes the internal representation of
the display from a product of the nutrient value and the daily value, to
just the nutrient value.

reduce confusion by showing any adequate level of intake as 100%, no

nutrients. This database contains values for vitamins, minerals, fats,
calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc., and includes the essential
polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed
as a percentage of the Daily Value, the familiar standard of food labeling
in the United States, but also can be fully customized. Recipes can be
added, and graphs drawn. The program is completely menu-driven and there
are no commands to learn.

Changes:
The upper limit of the polyunsaturated reference value for linoleic acid
has been reduced to 4% of calories, while that for alpha linolenic acid
has been raised to 2%. An internal constant for the percentage of total
fat that is fatty acids has been replaced by a function that figures it
for each analysis.

Changes:
Because the program uses the approximation of 4 calories per gram for
carbohydrate and protein to analyze meals according to the "Daily Value"
-- although real food has various values for calories per gram -- the
program now refigures fat percentage values at each analysis so that when
calories, carbs, and protein are each at exactly 100%, fat will be also.

Changes:
This release introduced the latest USDA database, SR16-1, and changed the
handling of the essential fatty acids. Lands' equation for "estimated
percentage of n-6 HUFA in plasma cell membrane phopholipids based on
diet" now only appears optionally on the analysis screen if the user sets
a required target value, in which case, William Lands' recommendations
for polyunsaturated fatty acid values replace the program's own. The
determination of what is Omega-6 and what is Omega-3 has been changed so
as to estimate only when the USDA database does not differentiate.

About:
nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your meals for
nutrient composition. The database included is the USDA Nutrient Database

for Standard Reference, Release 16-1, which contains 6,661 foods and 125

Foods can be added

from recipes or food labels, and nutrient intake can be graphed. The

program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.

Changes:
The program now distinguishes between zero values and no data in the USDA
database, and uses this information to produce a new screen that lists
foods high in some nutrient while minimizing some other nutrient.

This release offers a new personal options calorie level feature that
filters out insignificant day-to-day variation from meal analysis. This
feature sets the calories automatically to the user's average, and when it
analyzes meals, it takes the most current run of meals that contains that
average. Thus, nutrient levels are shown more accurately because each
analysis represents the same amount of food.

for alcoholic beverages have been corrected. Also, an error was fixed that
led to different fat values based on whether the user input changes to the

nut 10.17
Sun, Apr 3rd 2005 03:08

About:
nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your meals for
nutrient composition. The database included is the USDA Nutrient Database
for Standard Reference, Release 17, which contains 6,839 foods and 128
Foods can be added
from recipes or food labels, and nutrient intake can be graphed. The
program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.

Changes:
This release corrects the formatting of the man page and restores the
correct alpha-linolenic acid reference value, which was too low in the
last release.

Mon, Jan 29th 2007 13:40

About:
nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your meals for
nutrient composition. The database included is the USDA Nutrient Database

for Standard Reference, Release 19, which contains 7,293 foods and 140

Foods can be added
from recipes or food labels, and nutrient intake can be graphed. The
program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.

Changes:
This release allows the ranking of foods by nutrient within the
USDA-defined food groups so that a user could easily find, for example,
the vegetables with the most calcium or the meats with the most vitamin C.

Changes:
This release gives the user more control over essential fatty acid values.
The balance between Omega-6 and Omega-3, as modeled by William Lands'
equation relating dietary intake to the ultimate composition of cell
membrane phospholipids, can now be changed to favor more or less Omega-3,
and this relationship is shown on analysis screens. The maximum allowable
amount of EPA and DHA can also be set. If this maximum is set low, the
program shows by how much Omega-6 would have to be restricted in order to
meet the target.

This release fixes a bug in the food suggestion function. When an analysis
