Hey, I'm new to this whole game here...

I just got into Linux, like *just* and its not even on my machine yet,
but I have SuSE 8.1 coming.

So then I got this little old laptop, for free, a Compaq LTE Elite
4/75 thing with 500mb harddrive space, and I decide I wanna put linux
on that computer too, mostly for word processing at the coffee shoppe.
i decided on Damn Small since its a minimal version and has a
desktop, which I need to... well, otherwise I'm lost. I downloaded
the *.iso file and made a c.d., for both 0.3.9 and 0.3.10, but their
autorun.bat files are looking for a file named "index.html" on the
disk. Its not there. the file only says:
@echo Load "index.html"
@start "index.html"
@exit

Here's the kicker. My little laptop only has a 3.5" drive, and most
files are bigger than 1.44mb right, but it does have a parallel port;
I have access to a iomega zip drive. and, since I re-formatted the
500mb drive I've only been able to boot with a Win 98/MS-DOS boot
disk. I can't get past that hurdle either.

So I boot with a boot disk, and I got the iomega DOS driver so that I
can (hopefully):
make the image file c.d.,
copy it to a Zip disk,
boot the small computer into DOS,
load the Zip driver into DOS,
copy DSLinux from the Zip onto the hard drive,
and then run it? install it? what next? will this work?
what am I doing!?

I would enjoy a response, if anyone wanna help a brotha out.

Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

leadership? Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or
HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source

Damn Small Linux 3.3RC1
by damnsmalllinux (http://freshmeat.net/~damnsmalllinux/)
Mon, Feb 26th 2007 21:23

About:
Damn Small Linux is a business-card size (50MB) Live CD Linux distribution.
Despite its minuscule size it strives to have a functional and easy to use
desktop.

Changes:
Changes in this release include mouse configuration persistence via
mouse_config, improved rdesktop with added color depth, ALSA sound
auto-configuration improvements via a conflicting audio module, automated
start of rcfirewall upon boot when rcfirewall.unc is in the mydsl search
path at boot, and auto-start of gtk2 when the gtk2 extension is in the
mydsl search path at boot. Non-boot SCSI modues were removed but can be
autoloaded when scsi.unc is in the mydsl search path. A legacy option was
added to the lowram boot image label. A lowram check was added to
xinitrc, which prevents Dillo and Torsmo from starting.
