how to plot curve only horizontally and vertically

I'd like to know how to plot lines between two points only horizontally and vertically like this:

                   |          |

Lines have a 'steps' option that enables this behavior.  Take a look at the API documentation for more information.

I’m interested in this too – the problem with steps option is that if you turn on points, it puts a point at both ends of each horizontal line, when I’d like them only at the start (as Aro illustrated).

 If anyone knows a way to do this then I’d be happy to learn about it.
