Hi All,

I am going to start style guide for Gujarati, We have felt the need of
one style & convention guide for Gujarati, a guidelines which can
be treated as a reference point for Gujarati language community
working
for the localization.

The style guide will be helpful in making the translation better as
different people are adopting different styles and this result in
inconsistency and lack of flow in the text. It will help to make our
translation more fair, more accurate, more consistent. The style &
convention guide will try to help translators and interested
localization engineers in increasing understandability of several
aspects of translation. This guide will talk about Fonts, Collation,
Numerals, Calendar, Acronym, Glossaries, Punctuations, White Spaces,
Message Lengths, to name a few.

I will take reference of hindi style guide which is already ready,Let
me know if anybody willing to participate on it.

You can take reference of Hindi style guide on:

http://svn.fedorahosted.org/svn/fuel/fuel-hindi/FUEL_Translation_Style_and_Convention_Guide_HINDI.pdf

Thanks,
Sweta

Hi Sweta,

Thanks for making the first draft.

Here are my observations or suggestions.

1. The Guide should be called "Style and Conventions Guide for Computer Translations into Gujarati" instead of "FUEL Translation and Style Guide Gujarati".
2. Why? --> It's same as mentioned in Hindi Guide. No need to re-explain.
--> I think it's better we put Why section on the fuelproject website itself
3. What' is Gujarati? --> Really don't see the need of writing what Gujarati is. Just refer to wikipedia a be done with it. Please remove this section.
4. Who Should translate? --> again it's common and could be put on the fuel website.
5. Please remove these examples, not appropriate. Find some good examples.
       આજે મારી શાળામાં રજા છે. (Singular)
       આજે બધી શાળાઓમાં રજા છે. (Plural)
       આ સુંદર ફૂલ છે. (Singular)
       આ સુંદર ફૂલો છે. (Plural)
6. Trademarks should also not be translated. Mention that somewhere.
7. Please find some another example, as translation is not really good in the example used.
Type a new accelerator, or press Backspace to clear
       નવા પ્રવેગકને ટાઇપ કરો અથવા સાફ કરવા માટે બૅકસ્પેસ ને દબાવો
       નવા પ્રવેગકને ટાઇપ કરો અથવા સાફ કરવા માટે Backspace ને દબાવો
       gedit
8. It should be "વૉટ" not "વાટ".
       Watt
       વાટ
       W
9. It should be "ફૅરનહીટ" not "ફૅરનહાઇટ".
       Fahrenheit
       ફૅરનહાઇટ
       °F
10. Chandrabindu, we need to find some real good example here.
11. "કૃપયા આ વાતનું ધ્યાન રાખશો" is not correct. Correct is "કૃપા કરી આ વાતનું ધ્યાન રાખશો". કૃપયા is hindi.
12. Order of mentioning Genitive is not really a critical, however we are taught "નો, ની, નું, ના" instead of "ની, ના, નું, નો,"

Thanks!

Sweta, Thanks for making the changes. Looks good now.

Now the only change is required for finding correct example of
Chandrabindu. I am unable to find that myself, can we contact some
expert to get the help here?

Regards,
Ankit
