One thing that I feel is extremely important on rides is to have
identification on you and not take the chance of being unidentified in
the event of an accident. We should never depend on our cycling
partners/friends in the event of an accident ... they are nice to have
around (well, most of them anyway!), but in an emergency situation, we
find out they know very little, if anything, about our medical history
and family contact numbers. Even more importantly, what if you were
riding alone? Your cell phone is of little use if you're unconscious.
And without ID, how could anyone help you? I just want everyone to
ride safe and smart.

out. As a first responder, I would recommend the traditional type (and
so far all the first responders I've spoken with agree). When at a
crash scene or when encountering someone that has fallen, passed out,
etc. the one with ALL the printed information on the actual road ID
(vs interactive) is the best to have.
Things we'd want to know?
your name, any medications you take on a regular basis (some cause you
to bleed more freely), any allergies (nuts, penicillin, bee stings,
etc),
an emergency contact phone #, any conditions .
When on the side of the road at a crash, there are too many things to
do usually - traffic, sirens, just outside noises in general and not
enough time to get out your phone (usually a personal vs agency cell
phone) call and go through prompts. Knowing right on the scene at
first encounter that you are a hemophiliac or on coumadin would
explain (possibly) excessive bleeding; stuttering might explain a
previous head injury or stroke, parkinsons might explain slow/jerky
responses/motions, deaf or hearing impaired would explain your not
responding to verbal questions. THOSE things would help immediately
at the scene. The interactive would be helpful AFTER THE FACT once you
are at a hospital and additional information is needed and no one has
been located.
One of my old Road ID's has previous phone numbers on it, so that one
is a luggage tag that shows my name and address on it and tape over
the phone numbers; the new Road IDs have velcro to allow you to remove
the plate and replace that part only, which is nice.
Just my two cents worth. and while we're on the subject, take out
YOUR cell phone and add ICE (In Case of Emergency) numbers:
ICE_mom SUSIE and her #
ICE_daughter Mary and her #
ICE-me and MY cell #
we do pick up phones and look - and you can always 'fool' the fields
to add other information, like conditions, meds, allergies, etc!!!
and go to the Florida Driver License site (yes it is Driver not
Drivers), and add confidential emergency contact information - we DO
use this information if needed.

first time at a bicycle festival in Mt. Dora in 1985. He was a pretty
prolific rider and I'm sure that all his cycling kept him healthy for a long
time. As long as I knew him, until he was committed to a nursing home around
March 2009 where all kinds of "meds" were forced on him, he never took any
medication of any kind. I don't even remember him taking an aspirin. He
was a strong man and a pretty strong rider especially for his age. You may
remember that the last four digits of his phone number were the year he was
born - 1926. I don't know if he was a member of the group this past few
years but I know that when he was, he was a pretty dedicated to the group
and had many friends among you. As far as I know there is not going to be a
service here in Orlando for him but I heard that there might be a memorial
for him in Canandaigua, New York this summer. If you would like any more
