I have a database, inherited from another linguist, with three vernacular writing systems. Two of those writing systems are identical (not certain why they were both created)--I'll call them A and B--so I'm trying to eliminate one (B). This is easy in the lexicon.

But in texts ... most of the texts are entered in writing system A, but one is entered in B. So I went to wordforms, displayed a column for Form in A and a column for Form in B. Then I used click copy to get every wordform that's in B to be in A. Then I change the baseline text in the relevant text from B to A using select-all and selecting the writing system A.

So far, so good. It recognizes every form and suggests an analysis in green (this is Gloss tab). I go through and approve everything. But ... if I leave the gloss tab and then return, all the forms are in green again, acting like I didn't approve them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

There's a really nice "merge writing systems" function which I think
would take care of this for you. Go to "Format; Set up Writing Systems",
right click the writing system you want to get rid of, and you'll get a
dialog box to let you merge it into the writing system you want to keep,
so the two writing systems become one without messing up any of the data
in those writing systems.

I don't remember which version this first showed up in. It was still
pretty new in December. So if you haven't been keeping up with the
latest version of FLEx, you might need to upgrade in order to get this
merge option.

This is great news. Thanks for sharing. Sorry I missed this in the help files!
