Will's First Day of School

Dear Friends, When I dropped my son Will off for his first day of school a little more than a week ago, you know who I didn't see in the classroom? Senate President Jeff Atwater. But that's not because he didn't want to be there. He tried his best last session to take over Will's classroom and classrooms all over the state with his disastrous Senate Bill 6. That's the bill that would have crippled community control of public schools, punished experienced teachers, forced students to take dozens more standardized tests like the FCAT, and forced millions more tax dollars to be used to pay for the expansion of testing. And that's the same bill that Jeff Atwater and Republican leaders are promising to bring back after the November elections. But we kept Jeff Atwater out of Will's classroom last year, and if we stand together, we can do it again, this time for good.   This week I launched a petition, a petition I need you to sign, to fight back against Jeff Atwater's Tallahassee takeover of our classrooms. Senate Bill 6 was an example of everything that's wrong with Tallahassee. Senate President Jeff Atwater and his Republican colleagues tried to ram their way into our classrooms, trying to tell our local school boards and school districts how to run their classrooms. It was wrong then and it's wrong now. We have to hold him accountable by defeating him in November. Whether it's Atwater's Senate Bill 6, the $48 million Tallahassee "Taj Mahal," or Atwater's $110 Million Prison to Nowhere, Florida just can't afford Jeff Atwater.  Will you help me keep Jeff Atwater out of Will's classroom by signing this petition?
