I don't know where meteorologists do their air pollution readings, but at ground level, which is where most people live around here, I think air pollution from old cars has become extremely serious, and is under- reported.
I just don't understand how the state of Florida can stop car inspections and not require at least the most minimal of pollution control devices on older cars. I can remember going to California with an older car, and having it retro-fitted with a device for retarding the ignition at higher speeds. I'll bet that most of the older vehicles in Florida don't even have that kind of rudimentary pollution-control device. And, in large metropolitan areas like Miami and Tampa, you can bet that there are people having pollution symptoms from these cars.

The simple act of keeping them tuned up would eliminate the most egregious pollution. Besides, the older cars are becoming a rare sight on the roads today. Just let nature take its course!
