Description: The purpose of this forum is to harness the power of Colorado's innovative pioneer spirit, using ideas from the public to improve traffic conditions in the I-70 corridor.

Mass Transportation Is The Answer
Thanks for being concerned about the problem and taking steps to address it. Also, thanks for making input easy via the internet. Enabling constituents a voice regarding current issues is a great concept that enhances representative government. I hope it spreads. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:off ice:office" />... more »

I think that there should be a skiers tax Like add $5.00 to each ticket sold. I think a ski train would be a good Idea. I think that a train from Denver to Glen wood to Grand junction to Salt lake to Cheyenne and to Denver. Dallas Railsback Greeley, Colorado

FW: Stupid Ideas for I 70
I think everyone needs to stay off Crack as sounds like that is what everyone is doing with coming up with these ideas. First as normal make the people that paid for this Road already to pay again and again.. This should have been looked at 15 year ago but the government can't look that far ahead. First to much truck traffic sending by rail is much cheaper and would... more »

Fix I-70
Senator, I-70 should have been widened 20 or more years ago. Trying to limit access by imposing a surcharge, "TAX", on people using it is unfair. At this moment you are only talking about the Ski Season. I do not Ski. I do like to camp during the Spring, Summer and Fall. The traffic on any weekend in this state... more »

Rail, Yes for now, Part 3
Oh Boy. Now the other side of the ticket is suggesting a $5 tunnel fee. Mr Romer, looks like you were beat to the punch with your bill, whatever it may be. Let me guess,,,,more $ to fix the situation? At least the Colorado legislature is a little bi-partisan here. The $40M to be raised??? How long will that take to pay for alternate transportation up I70? 3, 5, or even 10 years? Maybe 20 or more? Several other posters and I have offered plausible solutions without raising taxes in the state. They would even be easy to institute and have a working plan for the future that "could" incorporate the new transportation modes suggested in the forum,,,,,,,at a later date after adequate planning. Why long term planning? Look as some of the unchecked growth here in the state. Another? Take a look at Colorado Springs. They are just now getting their transportation problems worked on (not resolved). In the 70's the place was a nightmare to drive through---it still is. Now, wit... more »

OK...so let's FIX I-70
Dear Chris, Let's encourage a fix by using several different methods: 1. Providing public transportation at Park-and-Rides to go to the ski areas and making it able to use our RTD passes for discounts. 2. Making the Colorado State Patrol a partner in keeping traffic moving not impeding it with their "ticket agenda"...we are skiing not smuggling... more »

Monorail or Train
As one of those new pesky Californians that just moved to the Denver area I would like to say that driving I-70 is very frightening in bad weather. Limiting automobile traffic in any way would add to the safety. The light rail system in the Metro area is wonderful. Something like this that takes people to the ski areas would be ideal... more »

fix I70 now...
I think some of these ideas are ridiculous.... My family takes day trips to Denver in the summer and overnight trips to all over the front range in the winter, I also travel to Denver for business. Why should I be forced to pay a fee to use the highway that is already owned to get to and from pleasure and business trips on the other side of the mountains. Just because the people of Denver are forced to drive a little slower to get to the mountains in a little bit of traffic they are generally the ones causing the accidents and the back up and also seem to be the reason why the highway seems to close for the smallest amounts of snow.... more »

Fix I-70 Now
I find it very frustrating that the only way lawmakers think they can solve problems is by throwing money at it. Toll fees and toll-HOV lanes will not help. The added conjection would be awful. A good solid plan would be appropriate and then by cutting wasteful government spending, the plan whether it be widening I-70 or adding an... more »

Car Trains
Many years ago we vacationed in Switzerland. Almost all of our travel was by automobile. When crossing from the Rhone Valley to Interlaken, crossing a major mountain chain, our host suggested the auto-train. We drove up onto a double decker train car, set the brakes, and turned off the engine. The train went through a series of tunnels and we were... more »
