Subject: fit updates
Hi fitters,

Well, things go slowly but they keep going.
After a stop we have continued with FIT,

First of all we have updated it to rails version 2.1
though some minor upgrade changes still need to be done.

On the other hand now you can:
- upload files that are in a public/pofiles directory, so that if there
are dozens of files to translate its easier to upload them,
- download pofiles
- change in the interface for better usability
- added translator of each string
- checkbox to check if prroread is done

In a near future:
3 level access control, admin, project manager, translater/proofreader
More changes in interface to improve and facilitate work

Ah!! one thing is that the demo is not yet updated so to see the changes
please download the svn version.

regards

Hey Carolina, that's great news, I'm glad this project keeps going.

I would like to join the developers team but sincerely I don't know where to
start.

I think it would be great if we could arrange a meeting during the next
Conferencia Rails (Madrid, november 13th and 14th 2008) so you can explain
to newcomers how to start, what has been done, how to submit patches,
documentation, etc.?

Well, that's fine for me, I don't know if i'll be able to answer all
those questions :-D ... but I can give it a try ;-)

Can you save a space for FIT during the Conferencia Rails or do I have
to submit the petition? should we do it in an informal way, in the
corridors, cafeteria... :-D... what do you think?
Let me know ok?

regards

During the Conferencia Rails there will be a room for "not-conferences" or
"desconferencias", that is, auto-organized talks that don't need to be
approved either reserved by the team, so I think that will be the best way
to do it. I would announce it the first day and organize it informally on
the second day.

Hey guys,

As announced by Carolina, we have been working on FIT for the last few
weeks in order to get the application operative. I think finally we have
come to the point where everybody who wants can download FIT and start
testing and localizing websites or applications based on .po files with it.

From our daily work with leading web companies at Beluga we see that
FIT is really worth its development. Commercial translation software
normally don't adapt to the requirements of dynamic website localization
and are costy and inflexible. Home grown editors on the other side
normally presents quite a lot of missing features for a long time due to
limited development power and/or missing knowledge of translation and
management issues. A joint approach to set up a working open source
translation editor based on open standards is the right way to increase
productivity and to spread useful web-services around the world.

I hope FIT turns out to be useful to many of you out there. Of course,
there is still much place for improvement so please feel free to
participate and to comment, suggest or help to develop this
application...It's OPEN SOURCE ;-)

Best wishes from Madrid,
Jan
