Fit aims to deliver an open source web translation platform supporting current standards such as gettext's pofiles and xliff.
Integrated with the project development work flow translating code will
ease the pain of developers, translators and system administrators.
We have three major objectives:
- Enforce the usage of standard translation interchange formats such as gettext's pofiles and xliff and tools like xgettext.
Help projects to coordinate the translation process while at
development stage. Let private organizations know about the usage of
this tools and how it can improve their current procedures.
- Reduce the overhead of production stage by linking directly to their i18n repository. That will allow the people involved in the translation team to be up to date about the project translation status. Bring real translators
to participate in through a web interface, without any additional
knowledge. Make the management aware of every task in the process so
that they can take the right decisions. Allow an easier coordination
and a lighter communication with the help of feeds, reports, marks and
events. We want our software to store and use the more automatic
information as possible rather than human provided information. That
means a more agile and clever platform following the DRY principle.
- Create a community and a public translation
database. Our software will allow projects to share the translation
work in between, by providing community features like search through
public catalog, query for similar translations and collaboration
between projects and translators. Features such as ratings, comments,
copywriter's suggests, contextual information and fuzzy search amongst
others.
