Radcliffe slays the inspect offset bug

Firebug 1.4a24 has Mike Radcliffe's fix for the inspect offset. Since
we don't have automatic tests for this important feature, please try
this version if 'inspect' is important to you. Details:

I discovered that the outline was offset when the page was scrolled.

I have already committed the fix.

Hi

Unfortunately, this has made things worse on ubuntu 9.04 with Firefox
3.5b5pre (Shiretoko Build 20090504075713)

From what I can see, if I hover over certain elements the highlighting
occurs above the actual element by the height of the firebug window.

However, on a different page the highlighting works correctly

In the 'error' shot the highlight above the mouse over the image being
inspected.

At first I thought it was the type of element that I was inspecting
that caused the error (img) but subsequent tests showed that sometimes
a div was OK and sometimes it wasn't. I used locally created page for
clarity in the examples but it also happens on normal webpages.

Edit: I can't upload the screenshots to the list - will post back with
some urls when I can upload them to my website.

In the one showing the error you can see that the mouse pointer is
over the advertising image, yet the outline of the element is floating
above.

The error you are describing is the same as the one I describe in the
second post of this thread. Basically the scroll offset was not taken
into account by the inspector. This has now been fixed but the fix has
not yet been released but it should be released very soon.

I thought you were just explaining what was fixed in 1.4a24, rather
than discovering something extra!

There is no need to apologise, we would much rather somebody report a
bug we know about than not report a bug we don't. It is actually a big
issue because if you scroll one page down then the outlines are 1 page
out of sync.

You could always fix this yourself because it is very easy.

1. Close all instances of Firefox
2. Edit ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/extensions/
fir...@software.joehewitt.com/content/firebug/highlighter.css
3. Change #firebugBody so that it has position: fixed instead of
position: absolute

Save the file and the inspector will work properly.

If you don't want to do this then feel welcome to wait for 1.4a25 ;o)
