Installing firebug-1.2.0b6 on Firefox/3.0.1 (Vista). It shows up after
install with message: "This add-on will be installed when Firefox is
restarted." After restart Firebug is not visible.

Use URL about:config to set
extensions.logging.enabled true
Open Firefox > Tools > Error Console.

Try to install again.

Or use the hints on
Installing in a clean Profile
in http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/web/faq-about-firebug
and try to install in a clean profile.

Do you have any other suggestions how to make it work on FF
3.0.1(vista bussness) because new profile is not working for me.

I'm having the exact same problems.
Tried to install Firebug 1.2.0b6 on FireFox 3.0.1, but it just keeps
disappearing when I restart FireFox in order to install Firebug.
Also created a new, clean profile, but i'm still having the same
problem.

And what did the Error Console show when you set extension.logging
true?

Hello, sorry but I'm not so experienced of using firebug and FF
futures, so I don't know how to set extension.logging to true, if you
explain how can I do that I will post "error consol" error.

Hi, just type about:config into the adress bar of your FF
the exact name of the line to find is extensions.logging.enabled,
right click and switch the false/true

(it's also explained here:
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Setting_up_extension_development_environment#Development_preferences)

two messages I got no errors.
* Install Location returned a missing or malformed item path! Item
Path: C:\Users\Mantas\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
\zr7m5app.default\extensions\fir...@software.joehewitt.com, Location
Key: app-profile Item ID: fir...@software.joehewitt.com

* ExtensionManager:_finishOperations - failure, catching exception -
lineno: 4862 - file: file:///c:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js
- TypeError: entries[i] is null

evry other warning seems to be only from the page content (css).

Guys,
this installation failure is a recurrent problem on Vista. I was
confronted with it switching to FF3 with b3 - it was resolved with b4.
Now I am having the same problem with b13 which won't install on FF3/
Vista.
The log is pretty explicit showing access rights problems which is
specific to Vista...
I guess I'll wait again on an update for an automagic fix - elevation
and re-creating profiles should not be necessary.

These are all issues that Firefox extension developers would love to
hear about.

I'm no developer, but I've managed to get it installed manually.

my procedures are as follows.
1. get the latest firebug xpi from mozilla addons. (right click on the
Add to Firefox button to get the link and use the link in any
downloader to download it.)
2. Use the Add to Firefox button to install the extension
3. go to your profile/extension folder. it's usually located in C:
\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile
name>\extensions
4. create a folder fir...@software.joehewitt.com
5. go to the folder you just created, and extract the downloaded xpi
into the folder (I used 7-zip)
6. wait for 1-2 minutes and restart firefox.
firefox should be now configuring the new extension, so it may
take longer to start.
7. check if you see the tiny bug in your status bar. if yes, go to
your extension folder and delete the stage-xpi folder.
if not, try to restart firefox again or do the procedures all over
again.

I think this issue is quite disturbing, every time firebug has an
update I've to go through this all over again.
but I guess this has something to do with the vista SP1, not firebug.
hope these help.

regards

Again, we can't fix this, it has to be fixed by Firefox.
