When I installed Firefox 4.0b8 is said my (not quite current) version
of Firebug was not compatible.

I installed Firebug 1.6.1b2 from: http://blog.getfirebug.com/2010/12/22/firebug-1-6-1b2/

and enabled it. Not used it much but did notice that in the Add-ons
manager, it shows up as:

Firebug 1.6X.1b2 - wondering where the "X" came from....

I have used Firebug effectively in the past and like it a lot.

Thanks for the effort!

Best wishes for the holidays,
-Dale

Hi Dale, you can use firebug 1.7 on Firefox 4.0b8,
http://getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.7X

The X means it has Firebug's development tracing installed.

Note that FF4.0 support for Firebug has some issues: http://getfirebug.com/knownissues.

Got it, thanks.

Ah....

Everyone's code has issues, some folks just less willing than others to talk about them in public.

Being up front about them is (in my opinion) the best strategy.

I disagree. A better strategy limits the feature goals to items that
the development team can deliver with a good user experience. Dumping
dramatically new features untested in to a beta stream leads to
unhappy users and schedule slide. I don't think it helps if you are
willing to talk about them or not.

Sadly -chromebug is at the moment not useable becauses the crashes
with Fx4b9pre directly during startup. I have also tryed 4.0b8.

Sometimes i get it working with following method:

Install Firebug 1.6x1.b2 + Chromebug 1.6.0a11.xpi and start Fx4b9pre
with -chromebug option.
Install chromebug-1.7.0a7 over it and start Fx with -chromebug again.

With firebug-1.7X.0a7 + chromebug-1.7.0a7 i get never a working setup.

I only use Chromebug on FF 3.6. Firefox 4.0 is not ready for
Javascript debugging.
