Can you try the US-english version of Firefox on your machine? Maybe
there is some problem in the RU locale.

Just to the right of the the review box where people write those
comments it says:
Please do not post bug reports in reviews.
We don't read these reports.

I have the same problem. First install (not upgrading) of Firebug
1.4.5 to Firefox 3.5.5 on Vista. US version.

I've tried installing it 3 times. Same result; no add-on shown after
restarting FF.

Does Firebug show up in the addons menu, Firefox > Tools > Addons?

I have the same problem. I am trying to install firebug 1.4.5 on FF
3.3.5 (danish) on a Vista machine. It shows up in
Firefox>Tools>Addons, but states that it is going to be installed on
the next restart, but nothing happens when I restart FF - it still
isn't installed, and still states that it's going to be installed on
next restart.

There is one report that Firebug 1.5b3 installs in a copy of Firefox
that failed to install 1.4.5.

I had something like that when I updated new version and modified one of
the files before restarting FF... To resolve this I had to do the following:

1. Deinstall FB.
2. Close FF (do not restart!).
3. Remove FB folder from extensions folder.
4. Start FF and install FB all over again.

Then it all seems to work just fine.

Regards,
Nux.

Several reports now of success after pausing antivirus protection, esp
something called Kaspersky AV.

I had the same problem with Firefox 3.5.5, FireBug 1.4.5 and Kaspersky
Lab 6.0.
I installed Firebug but it didn't appear in Firefox Add-ons.
Turning off Kaspersky Lab I've been able to install FireBug just
restarting Firefox.
Hope it helps someone.

I am having similar, but not completely the same issues. I was able to
install FireBug 1.4.5 on FF 3.5.5 (Win7), but
despite FB showing up in the Add-ons and in Tools menu, the expandable
menu under Tools > FireBug won't expand.
It's as if the program is installed, but won't work.

I do not have Kaspersky AV. Our office is using ZoneAlarms security
suite. Any more ideas?

In this case I suppose the problem is some kind of interference with
another extension.

You can test this theory by installing Firebug in a new Firefox
profile, see http://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ.

Also, all of the options under Tools > Firebug are available under the
Firebug Icon Menu, upper left corner of Firebug.

Thanks, John. Before I saw your reply, I was able to fix this and get
FireBug working within Firefox 3.5.5.

First, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling FF 3.5.5 with no luck in
fixing the issue. A colleague said his version of FF 3.5.1 worked with
FB, so I uninstalled 3.5.5 and FB and installed FF 3.5.1. Then I
reinstalled FB, but still had the same issues. I then reinstalled FF
3.5.5 on top of 3.5.1.

I then uninstalled all 18 of the plugins I was using. I then rebooted
and reinstalled FireBug, which then worked. I then proceeded to
install all but one of the plugins carefully, one at a time and
testing FB after each installation to see if I could ID the
conflicting add-on. I never found the offending add-on, but I did
learn that 2 of the add-ons were not worth re-installing, so I didn't
bother. I suspect one of them was the issue.

I hope this helps someone else that runs into this same issue.

Thanks for the above from Slep79. For me, it appears the ZoneAlarm
toolbar conflicts with Firebug. After de-installation of the ZA
toolbar, it worked fine.
