I immediately get an error "Internet Explorer cannot download.
Unspecified error." If I disable the GCF plugin, FB Lite loads fine.

Whose problem is this? GCF or FB Lite? How can I help?

XP, IE7

You can use this as a test page:

By GCF you mean Google Chrome Frame plugin?

I never used GCF so I don't know exactly what to expect. As far as I
know, if you are using GCF it will behave just like Chrome without
having to adjust the code, right?

Do you know if Firebug Lite 1.3.0 was working with GCF before?

> Whose problem is this? GCF or FB Lite?  How can I help?

I don't have enough information to say if it is a GFC or FBLite problem.

Does the Chrome Dev Tools work when running on GCF? If so, please run
it and see if you are able to discover what line is causing the
problem.

regards,

Pedro Simonetti.

Pedro,

Did you try accessing the test page that I provided?

You will need to use IE7 to reproduce this error.

First, go here (using IE7) to get GCF.

http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/

Then, open test page.

http://www.rgraph.net/

Last step:

Load FB Lite from a bookmarklet. I got it from this location:

http://getfirebug.com/firebuglite#Stable

You will see that FB Lite is not loading and the error message is
displayed.

I believe this is a FB Lite's problem and wanted to check with you
before I repost in the GCF forum.

I just discovered that when you right-click on a page that was
rendered using GCF, you will see two new items in the menu: Inspect
Element and About Chrome Frame...

The Inspect Element feature is fairly powerful (e.g. console.log is
supported), so it reduces my need to use FB Lite.

Hi Les,

Sorry for the late response, I have been busy, and I had no Google
Chrome Frame and IE7 installed to test your problem right away.

See the report I created to track this problem:
http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=3482

This is a problem with Google Chrome Frame, which seems to NOT support
bookmarklets. Even a trivial bookmarklet with just a "alert" GCF is
not able to run it, and it shows the same mysterious error message, as
you can see by the following test case:
http://fbug.googlecode.com/svn/lite/branches/firebug1.3/test/issues/3482-google-chrome-frame/bookmarklet.html

So, I suggest contacting the GCF and inform them about this problem.

regards,

Pedro Simonetti.

And I forgot to mention one important thing.

You can load Firebug Lite without problems using a live or local link:
http://fbug.googlecode.com/svn/lite/branches/firebug1.3/test/issues/3482-google-chrome-frame/fblite-link.html

Of course you can also use Chrome Developer Tools, but if you want to
use Firebug Lite for CSS editing for example (which is easier to do in
Firebug Lite), you can do it too. Just use a link instead of a
bookmarklet.

Pedro Simonetti.

Thank you Pedro Simonetti for investigating this issue.

I reposted in the Google Chrome Frame forum.

We got an answer: GCF doesn't support the "javascript:" protocol.
