to Firebug
Windows XP SP3
Firefox 3.0.11
IE8

While in Firefox, I downloaded firebug 1.3. It didn't work. I could
see the firebug in the lower right corner. I could turn options on and
off from the tools menu but I could never load the console with F12.
I could not select an editor from the tools menu.

Uninstalled 1.3.
Tried 1.4b2
Same thing except I could no long select options from the tools menu.
The Firebug menu would never expand.
The firebug was still in the lower right corner but F12 did nothing.

I have IE8 running the whole time. At one point, I accidentally
switched to IE, thinking I was in Firefox (same window was up). I hit
F12 and it worked! In IE8.

Took me a few seconds to realize I was not in Firefox.

I've done the -ProfileManager thing. Created a new profile. Tried 1.3
and 1.42b and 1.42c. Nothing working in Firefox but it all works in
IE8.

So...any suggestions?

Thanks,
chris

I suggest you carefully repeat the installation in new profile
procedure. My guess is that you accidently re-ran a old profile.
Create the new profile and use Firefox > Tools >Addons to verify that
you have no addons. Then install Firebug 1.4b3 from http://getfirebug.com/releases.
Don't install anything else. Restart and Firebug will work. (Many
thousands of people have succeeded).

It is funny to see how closely IE8 copies Firebug ;-)

I also happen to me.
I did what John said but still got problem.
Previously I can use Firebug with no problem.
Is it because of FF3.0.11?
