Brothers & Sisters,

By now many of you have probably heard that a Hooksett, NH Firefighter sustained serious burn injuries last evening when he became separated from his crew and trapped during the initial operations at a third alarm fire in a commercial building.  According to firefighters who were on the scene, the firefighter became trapped when an overhead door came down as he had just stepped inside the large metal clad building with heavy fire conditions.  His officer immediately transmitted a Mayday and the firefighter was located very quickly.  Members used hand tools and a saw to gain access and extricate him.  By all accounts, the quick and decisive actions of the members of the balance of the first alarm companies effected the rescue of the firefighter in the most efficient manner possible.

The firefighter was transported to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester where he was stabilized before being transferred by ground to the Shriners' burn unit in Boston.  He reportedly sustained third degree burns on his ear(s) and neck and first and second degree burns on his neck, shoulders, and scapula-area.  Everyone agreed that the injured firefighter's gear did its job.

A Manchester firefighter was also transported from the scene with more minor facial burns following the explosion of some sort of tank.

Members of the FIOANH Board of Directors visited the Hooksett Central Station last evening and offered the Association's full support for the injured firefighter, his young child and family, and the Brothers in Hooksett.  If any support services are requested we will let you know as soon as possible.  We will also distribute contact info for cards, etc. when that becomes available.

Thanks & be safe!
