Brothers & Sisters,

I just received the following update and good news from Hooksett members who have spent the evening visiting their injured Brother in Boston:

Firefighter Jesse Gayer, 26 years old and on the job since 2004, was the nozzle-man on the first due engine at the third alarm fire.  The fire was in a large metal-clad commercial building occupied by a small engine and machinery shop.  The initial tactics were defensive, as fire was through the roof of the center of the building.  Firefighter Gayer took one or two steps through an open overhead door as the company prepared to deploy a Blitzfire appliance and the door immediately closed behind him, trapping him inside.  All of this occurred within minutes of arrival, and the other two members of his engine company immediately reacted and effected his rescue prior to the arrival of any other companies.

As you know, he was transported to the Shriner's burn center in Boston.  Firefighter Gayer's burns are not large-area, but rather several spot burns on his ears, neck, and shoulders, etc.  He will undergo surgeries and skin grafts in the next few days, and may be released from the burn center as soon as Friday.  Obviously, his full recovery will be lengthly but the members who visited today reported Firefighter Gayer is in very good spirits and say he's managing his pain well.

I received several emails and phone messages offering support today, all of which were passed along to the Hooksett Brothers and greatly appreciated.  The emails will be printed and delivered to Jesse, who is married with a 3 year old son.  If anyone would care to send a card, you may address it to:

The Hooksett Brothers also extend their gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer support.

Thanks & be safe!
