Description:
The Internet Film Club is founded by the members of IMDb who are interested in finding new directors and discuss them on the message boards of www.imdb.com
Each month we focus on a new filmmaker and make a list of his/her films to focus on.

Theodoros Angelopoulos - Alexander the Great aka O Megalexandros (1980)
|
| |
I started my Angelopoulos month (which starts in June) by watching
Alexander the Great. It was the longest film I had not seen by him and
I thought it was going to be a hard film to get through so I decided
to start with the hard part and get it over with. Boy was I wrong.
This was pure pleasure. Visually stunning, very clever play on history... more »

Partner (Bernardo Bertolucci: 1968)
|
| |
Bertolucci does a Godard film. I do respect Godard but his films don't
speak to me. The same goes for this one, even though it is based on
Dostoyevsky's "The Double". Thankfully Bertolucci did not try to make
a Godard film again. 6/10

Luna (Bernardo Bertolucci: 1979)
|
| |
I'm not sure how I feel about this film. It started out great and got
even better in the middle part but then it lost its way. I felt like
Bertolucci wanted to do too much at the same time and in stead of
saying a lot he ended up saying very little about each of the subjects
the film dealt with.... more »

Bertolucci - The Last Emperor
|
| |
The Last Emperor is filled with marvelous images, set designs,
costumes, everything. The whole shebang as they say. A bonafide epic
and most likely worthy of all of the Oscar attention it did receive.
But is it a masterpiece? I personally don't think so. Bertolucci is a
strange director to me, one I cannot crack or get inside to, his... more »

Besieged (Bernardo Bertolucci: 1998)
|
| |
Sometimes I'm totally at odds with most people when it comes to films.
This is one of those examples. It gets 6.7/10 at IMDb. It does get 75%
at Rotten Tomatoes but some of the critics just hate it, like one who
says: "Bertolucci and co-writer Clare Peploe seem intent on
deconstructing the story's interesting elements at every turn,... more »

Bernardo Bertolucci - The Spider's Stratagem (1970)
|
| |
This was a good film by Bernardo Bertolucci, well made, interesting
subject and a great end. It has been called a political allegory but I
would rather call it religious allegory.
SPOILERS! I wonder if Bertolucci is in fact trying to compare the
whole plot to Christianity. It was all planed to create a hero to... more »

Bertolucci - The Conformist
|
| |
I think I liked this film. It is that uncertainty that kills the whole
experience. While watching The Conformist, I become intrigued by
Bertolucci's technical prowess, the non-linear movement in its
storyline, and of course the exquisite cinematography. But these
moments of intrigue seem to come and go and the interest fades. There... more »

Bernardo Bertolucci - The Dreamers (2003)
|
| |
Nick Faust has complained about the problem with the 3rd act in
Bertolucci's films. Bertolucci did not write the script for this film
but I have to agree that this film suffers for the lac of any
conclusion. It starts out great, beautifully filmed, interesting
coming of age story and an exciting mixture of sex and politics. Add... more »

Bertolucci - Last Tango In Paris
|
| |
I started not only the Bertolucci month with this film but it is my
first ever Bertolucci film to be seen. Like I joked around before I'm
not sure if that is a good or bad thing starting with his most
controversial film. Well it must be a good thing as I really liked the
film. I had some issues with the film but Brando's performance and... more »

Bertolucci - La commare secca
|
| |
I started my Bertolucci month tonight with his feature debut. I had watched
as much Ken Russell as I could last month, mostly his early material (I was
behind as usual, due to other demands), including his debut, French
Dressing, and I had written a lot. Unfortunately it was all in one email
and I accidentally deleted the draft. I didn't really feel it was worth... more »
