I happened across this when exploring fast voxel libraries for
robotics. This library was obviously geared for rendering, but it
seems like it would be useful for physical world models for robots.
Has anyone explored this use for Field3D? If not, might this be
another use case for it?

Just curious ...

Hi Chris,

I haven't heard about anyone in robotics using Field3D, but it's always hard to know with open source projects.
As you say, Field3D was certainly developed with mainly simulation and rendering in mind, but out hope is that the design makes it useful in other areas as well.

I'm glad you mentioned simulation. Depending on the application,
there could be overlap with robotics and generation of robotic
controllers. Do you have any docs/links on Field3D's use in
simulation? Is any of it high fidelity physics-based?

All of the simulation work we've done using Field3D has been proprietary, so unfortunately there is no real documentation to be found in regards to that...
But yes, it has definitely been physically based: the simulators we've implemented are all finite difference and particle-based fluid dynamics engines.
I have to say though that I'm not very familiar with the needs of robotics and robotic controllers.. What is your take on Field3D so far, based on looking at the code? Is it somewhat suitable for your needs?
