Patch for 64-bit issue

Paulo César Pereira de Andrade sent me the attached patch, indicating that he had some kind of problem on 64-bit systems with Fedora's fflas-ffpack and linbox packages.  Unfortunately, he did not pass along any details.  The patch itself seems self-explanatory to me, though.
