My dog wants to be a ferret. I made Felix another dig box with potting mix (it's a bit full I need to dump some into my garden). I found out that dirt is ferret cat nip, he loves his box. Well, I left the top off while Felix was playing and left the area (I am soo blonde). My son found our 1 yr old dog Kira had dug out a hollow in the dirt and was laying in it. This happened twice before I learned my lesson (again, blonde). Felix likes to stash things from the recycle bin under the couch and Kira likes to take things from the trash or recycle to play with outside. We kennel her when we have to to minimize this. Now Kira has started taking things she left alone before but that Felix likes. Felix is teaching her how to be a really good ferret. Also Kira got Felix's leftover tube of furrovite and snuck outside with it and ate it, she is fine, it didn't hurt her. Kira tries to crawl under the couch with Felix but all that fits is her head while

I should rename Felix to Beans. His 2nd favorite thing to do is sneak into the pantry when we're not looking and steal bags of beans and hide them. My family has a bad habit of leaving the pantry door open, and I'll catch him sneaking off draging a bag of bans bigger than he is. We even found a bag inside the love seat. I promise we feed him and the good stuff too he really doesn't need to keep hording beans away. His first favorite thing to play with is an empty apple sauce cup. He pushes it all around the house then picks it up and carries it to another part of the house to push it around in there. He hisses when the kitten interrupts his play time with his cup. Right now I can hear him playing with it under the couch. He is a very quiet ferret even when excited he rarely dooks and when he does it is short 1-2 sec long and not loud I think he can hear. I'm not sure how much. I'm concerned with the markings on his face some times it seems

I saw the ferret nation 142 on sale at Petsmart today, with tax it was just $5 more than at Ferret.com with shipping. Not having to wait is worth $5 to me. And Felix is enjoying his new cage. Now what to do with the extra one. Christinna, I know you just gave one away and Millie you are over loaded with rescues. Do either of you need it, or does any one else. Felix has enjoyed it for the almost a month we've had him and it. Ferrets Unlimited has a number of ferrets on the 2009 Ferret Giving
Tree. These are special ferrets that will likely not have a forever
home in time for Christmas, but they would still appreciate goodies
from Santa and the special attention that pet ferrets receive at
holiday time.
Check out some of our Giving Tree Kids:

I made a rice dig box playground for Felix with a large plastic tote a
lot of rice with dryer tubing wrapped around and over and into the box. He
had so much fun that when I took him back for a rest break he drank
and ate and went to bed and didn't even bother to snuggle in just slept
where he dropped. I thought he'd want out for more play time but he was too tuckered out it was so cute. This week end we had a friend ferret come over for a play-date and sleepover. Felix wanted to play but Thomas is much older and only wanted to explore. I don't know how old he is but the family who has him doesn't know any thing about ferrets and I'm trying to help them. He doesn't get out of the cage time to play. Once a week they take him out to clean his cage while someone else holds him. He didn't have any thing in his cage not even a litter box she didn't know there was such a thing, just a food bowl and a water bottle. She thought Felix's cage was a mansion and I want the Ferret nation 142. She was given Thomas by some one else. While Thomas was here he got the royal treatment furovite, furotone, duck soup, Felix's food (I'm really glad he liked it, my puppy Kira ate the food he brought with him, I forgot to close the carrier we brought

OK this is an easy one. I don't want to hear any wisecracks about men
sewing either... but if it wasn't for ferrets and an inspirational boy
named Alex I would never imagine me behind the sewing machine. Here
goes 'nothing'... head out to your favorite fabric store (we go to
JoAnn's when they have a sale) and pick up several types of fleece.

Does any one have a ferret that prefers not to use a hammock? So far Felix only has the hammock that came with his Super pet cage. It isn't a very nice one, no lining and I wonder if I have it hung to tautly. We have only seen him in it a few times and not sleeping in it. He sleeps curled up on the floor of the cage snuggled down in his bedding with all bedding pushed out from under him. I would think he'd like to have more padding under him while sleeping. Does anyone have a hammock pattern they would like to share with me? In the mean time should I hang the hammock looser, any other ideas?

I have the Ferret Nation 142 with the additional level. Overall the
cage is quite tall, you can divide it in to three seperate areas and
it is super easy to get in to and clean since the front opens all the
way up. One of our board members uses rice in his dig box. It works well for him. He went to a store that sold the rice in the really big bags. Of course, the rice ends up being flung everywhere, and it is harder to clean up than larger balls would be.

As far as treats go, usually your ferret will tell you which one to buy. I ended up with most of a package of almost everything on the market before I found Yogies! I've also had some that won't touch a Yogies! but will fight over raisin flavored Bandits.

Which would be safer and more fun for him, a large
plastic tote, 56qt/ 53L, filled with ping pong balls or a starch based
packaging product.
