Layout of glossary window

I've just installed version 1.5.1 and tried out the new "choose the
destination glossary" feature (thanks Ryan!). That was definitely the
top of my wishlist for new features and I look forward to trying it out
more.

So the new top of my wishlist is this:
I'd like the layout of the glossary window to be more compact.

I often use Felix on a 15-inch laptop, so on-screen real estate is
limited for me. But I was just looking at the glossary window and more
than half of its width is taken up by (for me) non-essential info.

It's like this:

Would it be possible for the "Source" and "Trans" labels to be omitted?
(Or maybe included as a hover-over when the cursor hovers over the
actual source and translation texts?)

And could the glossary file name also be more compact? Perhaps color-coded?

I agree that this is much more compact. I've tried using Felix on a netbook, and the screen real estate Felix takes can make things crowded. On the other hand, I worry about whether this would be easy for a first-time user to understand.

One solution could be to have a "compact" command in the "View" menu, that would toggle between the verbose and compact views.

Another solution may be customized views. The layout of most of the views can be customized. If you drop the attached file into your templates directory (see below for instructions on getting to this folder), you should get a layout much like the above.

The problem right now is that every time you upgrade Felix, the template files will get overwritten, and you'll have to re-copy any customizations you've done.

I've been planning to make a tool to customize the Felix layout (called "CAT Skinner" :). If there's more interest in customizing Felix layouts, I could bump this up on my priority list.

I do have a feeling that there's a need for this, because I've made custom layouts for several users now.

If you're on Vista, then your templates directory will be at:
C:\Users\{user-name}\AppData\Local\Felix\html\en
(change "en" to "jp" for Japanese)

If you're on XP, it will be at:
C:\Documents and Settings\{user-name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Felix\html\en\

(Note that some of these are hidden folders, so it's probably easier to just copy the whole path into your address bar, and then modify {user-name} to be your own user name. You can also get here by typing "%LocalAppData%" (without the quotes) in your address bar, hitting Enter, and then going to "Felix\html\en".)

Thanks very much Ryan!

I followed the instructions below (simply dropping the file into the
folder you mentioned), and now I've got a much more compact glossary
window. It makes a big difference.

The "CAT Skinner" idea sounds good. I often play with the skins
available for things like Firefox, WinAmp, Songbird etc, but in the case
of Felix, it actually makes an important difference to my work. Perhaps
user-made skins could be made available as options like Firefox etc?
