Please pardon the not-strictly-Felix-related question on this list, but
I was wondering if anyone has had any success using Ryan's Word macros
(see URL below) in an Office 2007 environment.
I am getting a lot of assignments these days that could really benefit
from the functionality of the Wide2Narrow macro in particular, but I was
unable to get it to work in Word 2007 (even after creating a .docm file
to use it in).
If anyone has any suggestions about how to get these macros to work in
the more recent Office environments, I would be very glad to hear them.
Best regards,
Sako Eaton
I'm using this macro now in Word 2010. What kind of problems are you having?
Did you download the macro as a file, and then right click Modules and
select "Import" for your Normal file?

When I attempt to run the macro, Word shows that it is running, but at
the end of the process none of the double-byte characters have changed.

I selected the Import command from the File menu in the Visual Basic
window, but that does essentially the same thing, right? (In any case,
removing the module and re-importing it with the right-click method
doesn't seem to get rid of the problem.)

Which of the macros are you running? Do you have more than one document
open? Which double-byte characters are not getting changed?

I think I've discovered what the problem was. I think downloading the
Wide2Narrow.bas file with Google Chrome did something weird to the
character encoding.
I tried again with Firefox, and now the macro seems to be working as
expected (except that it still doesn't seem to do anything with the "、"
character, but I added my desired conversion to the list of
arguments--so I think I should be all set now).
Sorry about the false alarm!
