Hello...signed up today...we are a news site...covering the bailouts,
the Federal Reserve etc...our list has approximately 5,400 recipients
thru feedburner...

I think I imported teh list correctly, but it is only showing the
first 30 names that were entered separately a few minutes earlier...

I upgraded to a pro account and paid through paypal...

So I'm just making sure i actually did upload my second list with 5300
names or so...i had many tabs open and might have done it
incorrectly...thank you,

steve

Ok...i've gotten a few emails now that say that my import
failed...then i tried it again...and it failed...then a 3rd time...and
it failed...

I am using a CSV file...exported from feedburner into Excel...the
exact way I exported the first 30 names...which did work...

the error message i keep getting says something about not being able
to import a list from "nil to integer"

Any ideas?

Thank you,

steve

Hi Steve,

Sorry for the trouble!  Ok I looked into it and it appears it was failing because the first few emails in the import had some spaces in it.  I've corrected our script to account for this so it should work if you upload the file again.

However, before you do I noticed that the file you were uploading contains active AND inactive subscribers.  When opening the file you'll see a number of the subscribers with "Pending verification" next to their name.  This is common with Feedburner imports.  The import will typically fail if you attempt to import subscribers who have not actually confirmed (such as those pending verification).  You should edit the list in Excel first and remove subscribers who are not "active".  Then save the file as a CSV and upload.  Hope this helps!  Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Brian Armstrong

Brian...thanks for you response...i will try uploading the file again
and i will remove the 'pending verification' entries...

The reason i included them originally is the following...

We are a legitimate News site...every single name on the list came
from a reader finding our EMail Subscriber List ON THEIR OWN and
CHOOSING on their own to sign up for our email list...we DO NOT have
any gimmicks and WE DO NOT collect email addresses from readers...

The reason that most did not sign up, was that they never got the
confirmation emails from feedburner...

"thedai...@gmail.com' is an email address that GETS CAUGHT
incredibly often in spam filters...about 25% of the time...i have run
several tests and have seen the evidence myself...

And readers write me everyday to say they signed up but never got the
confirmation...

So this is one of the main reasons i am switching to FeedMailPro...

I have also changed the 'from' address to st...@dailybail.com so that
there might be fewer losses to spam filters...

Thank you,

steve

Hi Steve,

Alright, well it's actually up to you what email list to upload.  Just keep in mind that if people start complaining (clicking the spam report button in their email program) or too many of the emails bounce, the list will stop importing and you'll get notified about it.  At that point you'd have to start over with a cleaner list.  Hope it helps!

Thank you,
Brian Armstrong

Thanks Brian...I appreciate the response...

Since we are a news site and we don't sell anything, and our emails
contain just our stories, and finally since every single one of the
subscribers signed up on their own through feedburner, i don't
anticipate any problem with the import list...but i'm prepared to
start over if it doesn't work correctly...

Here's another complicated question...we put cnbc, msnbc and youtube
videos into many of our stories...the videos do not show up in the
original RSS feeds (the atom xml feeds) for our site...but the
feedburner feeds that are built from these xml-atom feeds DO HAVE the
videos inserted (so obviously feedburner does something to the xml-
atom feed to make the videos visible for readers through
feedburner)...

so my first question:

1 -- Is it normal for xml-atom feeds NOT to show videos that are in
the stories? IS there a way i can fix this?

2 -- I have noticed already in the test emails I've done with you
guys this morning, that my videos DO NOT show up in the emails your
system sends...(for the record, these videos ALSO DID NOT show up in
my emails generated by Feedburner-- the rss feeds generated by
feedburner DID HAVE the videos but the emails generated by Feedburner
DID NOT HAVE the videos-- hope this makes sense)

3 -- So I'm obviously trying to figure out how to get my videos to
appear in the emails you send?

4 -- Should I enter my original atom-xml feed address in your form
that asks for my feed addresss...or should i enter the address for my
Feedburner Feed in this form...? (for now i have entered the atom-xml
address)...

The reason i ask #4 above is the thought that since my feedburner
feeds DO SHOW the videos, i was thinking maybe that if you based your
emails off of their feed, then maybe the videos would show?

Sorry for so many question brian...i greatly appreciate your taking
the time to help me...

thanks,

steve

Hi Steve,

You could try both feeds, but I don't think there will be a difference.  As far as I know there is no way to have the actual YouTube video appear in emails (most email programs filter them out).  So while they will show up in Google Reader and things like that, they won't ever show up in emails.  Most people include a link to the video in posts so email readers can also get it also.  Or if you really want to simulate it, a screenshot of the youtube video that is clickable (since images will show up fine in emails).  Best of luck!

Thank you,
Brian Armstrong

Brian...

thanks for the explanation...i actually do the 2 things you suggested
already...provide a link and provide a photo caption of the video for
readers to click...

While you go through the several day importing process will I see
anything on the front 'mailings' page of my account?

thanks,

steve

Hi,

You'll see the number of recipients steadily increasing with each new mail that goes out on the mailings tab during the import.

You've done it correctly setting auto-send to no.  It just means that when a new mailing is created it won't send automatically, you'll see it on the mailing tab with a "send now" button next to it and clicking the mailing will allow you to edit it before sending.  Thanks!

Thank you,
Brian Armstrong

Hi Steve,

Description of the CAN SPAM requirement is here:
It requests full address, although we have no way of checking if what you put there is a complete address.

Feedburner stats will be updated if you put a Feedburner feed url into our site.  Otherwise it will have no effect.

I've fixed the timing issue on feeds, so if you hit edit and save it again, it should stay on today instead of setting it one day in the future.  If it doesn't work this time, you may just need to wait one day before trying again and it should work in the future.

Thank you,
Brian Armstrong

idea when my interface will show the subs
as imported....

By the way I love the emails so far...you have a great system...

I did notice that in the raw feed you do show widgets and videos...

I know you answered me before but is there any way i can get these to
show in the emails?

thanks,

steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the kind words.  You should see the recipient count increasing on each outgoing email.  When this number reaches about 50% of the total subscribers you're trying to import, the next mailing should complete it and they'll all show as subscribed.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to show video/widget in emails.  This is a limitation of all the email clients out there on the market and not something we control unfortunately.  Thanks!

Thank you,
Brian Armstrong
