zero overnight.

Me too ... it's gotta be a bug. Hopefully, the people who are
subscribed to the RSS feeds are still getting the content - only the
stats are wrong ... hopefully.

every morning my feed profile says i have zero subscribers. Then,
every evening the number is back up there. I have no idea why it does
that, but my subscribers are still getting my content. In addition to
asking a few of them, I also subscribe to my own blog by reader
(NewsGator) and email, just so I can see for myself if/when things are
delivered.

I usually check my stats in the evening. By a fluke, I just logged in
to check them (@ 9:30 a.m.) and I was at 0 subscribers. First time
I've seen that since I started the blog. I lost over 50 subscribers
overnight.

I know the posts are delivering because I subscribe and get every one.
It sounds like what you're saying, David, is the 0 subscribers first
thing in the morning is normal and if I check back tonight then I
should see my subscribers. Is that right?

I've noticed that for almost a week now, every morning when I check my
subscribers count in Feedburner, it shows up as zero. But, at some
point in the afternoon, the actual number starts showing up correctly.
This is a problem because I display the number of subscribers on my
blog, and I'm generally frustrated that this problem is happening
every single morning.

What's the point of these forums? I've never once seen a response
from anyone at Feedburner. Do they even read them? Yes, I get that
this is a free service but if you're going to provide a service at all
it seems to me there should be some accountability. I've had zero
subscribers for DAYS now and no one has offered an explanation, a
solution or even an acknowledgment of the problem.

That's been my experience. every morning it's at zero. every night
it's the right number. One way you can check to make sure all your
subscribers aren't deleted:

If you also offer a subscribe by email option, even though the front
page of your account will say "zero subscribers" you can still look to
see if it recognizes your email subscribers.

-Click on the Publicize tab
-in the left column, click on "email subscriptions"
-underneath that, click on "subscription management"
-scroll to bottom of page and make sure there is still a number
beside: "Total Subscribers"

FYI - if you don't already know this, there's a blue link underneath
"Total Subscribers" on that same page that says "view subscriber
details." If you click on that, it will give you a list of all the
email addresses that are subscribed to your RSS by email feed. It's an
interesting way to see a snippet of who's subscribing to your feed.

I also have zero subscribers listed. I know that's not accurate, but
it's been this way for the better part of two weeks. Is anyone working
on this? Is there an estimated time when it will be fixed?

I guess if nothing else it's good to know that this is happening to
other people and that I'm not the only one who went from 550 feeds to
0 overnight. I wish there were some sort of handy explanation,
though.

Okay, I'm fed up. Is there another service that offers something like
what Feedburner does - and more reliably?

And is it possible/easy to "transfer" my subscribers over to that
service?

This isn't the only problem I've had. My site statistics have NEVER
worked with Feedburner since I signed up.

to be fair to Feedburner, they offer a variety of add-ins and
additional options besides basic feeds and statistics. The only one
of these I use is email subscriptions, and there are plenty of other
options for that specific one. However, if we're looking at just the
basic feed redirect and subscriber numbers, I'm not aware of any other
service that parses the feed hits like Feedburner does.

Now, the technical aspect of the subscriber numbers is pretty much
trivial. Parse a file of hits on the feed and decide if it is a
subscriber or not based on a set of rules about what made the hit - is
it a bot, a browser, or a reader. Those rules obviously take time to
develop and require monitoring as things change over time. But in the
scheme of things, it is not a resource-intensive service to offer.

Possibly because there are so many free or nearly free options out
there, it would be hard to make money by simply coming up with a
barebones service for say $3 or $5 per month that redirected feeds and
did good stats. You'd need thousands of subscribers to begin to make
it work.

I'll add that there is no easy way to "transfer" your subscribers
other than by announcing it and asking them to switch. People do it,
of course.

Finally, I'll say that I use this for podcasting and if my $5 per
month libsyn account had one more thing in their log file - detailed
hits to the feed - then I would abandon feedburner and simply
calculate subscriber numbers myself. Until they do, or something else
comes along, I'd be spending more time on technical stuff and less
time on content/promotion, and I don't want that.
