Excessive HEAD requests

I work at a web hosting company, and we're getting slammed by requests
from FeedBurner.

Here's a few sample lines from today's access.log for one of our
customers:

What the heck is going on? This is obviously putting an unnecessary
load on our servers, and just can't be right. (It's happening to
several of customers.)

Others have raised the same concerns in the past and it has gone
unanswered. I'm hoping this time someone from Feedburner/Google will
respond.
