I tried updating kde 3.4 -> 3.5...
I get these errors (konstruct)

install kde), on fedora?
If not, how do i fix these errors?

Thanks alot

I had a similar problem - I fixed it by modifying the following line in
kspell_hspellclient.h :

#include "hspell.h"

to

/* libhspell is a C library and it does not have #ifdef __cplusplus */
extern "C" {
#include "hspell.h"
}

This is what they had in kspell_hspelldict.h but they forgot to do it
for kspell_hspellclient.h which gets called via the #include
"kspell_hspellclient.cpp" line in kspell_hspell_la.all_cpp.cpp.

Just go to the
konstruct/kde/kdelibs/work/kdelibs-3.5.0/kspell2/plugins/hspell
directory and modify this file. Then type make to recompile it.

That didn't seem to fix it....

Do you think it will soon be available through yum?
Or do i hafto wait until FC5?

fonz2591 wrote:

My first patch was for your first compiler problem. This second problem
is caused because you are missing some C runtime files from your gcc
directory. If you check under the
/usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/4.0.1 directory you'll find that they
are probably not there. They should be part of your gcc package.

Just use your package manager to install all these files. If you use
Kpackage it will list all the installed files associated with the gcc
package. Just make sure that the crt*.o files are listed. This should
fix your problem.

ah...
Figured it out :-)
I think all the files are there, but the dir is 4.0.2, not 4.0.1.
How would i go about with fixing this?

What version of gcc are you running ? - type 'gcc -v' to find out.

Did you upgrade the gcc package after you started 'make install' ?

If so, you might have to type 'make configure' to see if it picks up
the new gcc version and then do 'make install' again.

It could be that the ld.so cache is still using the older version.

Another quick and dirty solution would be to create the 4.0.1 directory
and copy all the files from 4.0.2 there.

That's one error fixed ;-)

Now i get another one...
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/libacl.la'
I have the same file, in the same folder, but with the .a extension...
Are these extensions the same? (can i just rename it)

Jeffman54

Sort of the same file - If you copy it and rename the copy, this would
probably work.
But you would have to do this everytime you rebuilt it - see below for
a better solution.

The libtool program creates the .la (library archive) file from the
object files because it is meant as a cross-platform tool which helps
to build static or shared libraries on platforms which may have
different ways of handling libraries. See this link for an explanation
of libtool :

http://www.gnu.org/software/libtool/manual.html

Are you building on Fedora ? They seem to have a similar bug listed for
that distribution (see link :
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-bugs-dist&m=113206245716545&w=2)

They fixed it by making a symbolic link to the file which libtool had
actually created as /lib/libacl.la.

Can you check to see if has been put there ? If so, then you can do
what they did - create a symbolic link to it :

ln -s /usr/lib/libacl.la /lib/libacl.la

I hope that helps solve your problem.

I think that *.la isn't in either dir. And copying & renaming the file
didn't work.

[root@ lib]# pwd
/lib
[root@ lib]# ls *cl.*
libacl.so libacl.so.1 libacl.so.1.1.0

and

[root@ lib]# pwd
/usr/lib
[root@ lib]# ls *cl.*
libacl.a libacl.so libtcl.so

btw: thanks for helping so far!

Can you list the error messages you are getting now, so that I can see
what the exact problem is ?

I don't appear to have libacl.la (or libacl.a) on my system
(SimplyMepis) so I didn't have this problem. I think the Access Control
Lists library (libacl.a) isn't used on my system - I think only Red Hat
Enterprise systems tend to use it.

Looking back over your previous posts, I see that you only wanted to
update KDE with a newer RPM. Don't you just run Fedora's package
manager to get it ? Either apt-get or yum will work. Try going to the
KDE for Red Hat project at :

http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/

This site will give you the latest KDE 3.5 as rpm files for Red Hat and
tell you everything you need to know.

I hope that helps.
