[FDS-SMV Developer Blog] Release of FDS 5.4.2

A new maintenance release of FDS, version 5.4.2, is available at

http://code.google.com/p/fds-smv/downloads/list

This release contains a number of bug fixes related to experimental routines known collectively as "FDS 6". These changes should not affect the current FDS 5 default functionality. We are gradually working in these improvements to FDS while continuing to maintain the current capabilities. This should make the transition to the new routines smoother once they have been thoroughly shaken down. Many thanks to those of you who have been playing with the new routines. It is only through this process that we can work out the kinks.

OK.... so, when I try to install "FDS_5.4.2a_SMV_5.4.6a_win64.exe" (on
my Vista64 Core2 Duo 64-bit machine), I get the following 'error' (and
there's no FDS5_mpi_win64.exe in the new directory...):

FDS and Smokeview installation.

Removing pre 5.4 FDS/Smokeview entries (if present) from the System
Path.
Press any key to proceed or CTRL C to abort
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration is in
correct. Please see the application event log for more detail.

Associating the smv file extension with smokeview.exe

Adding FDS and Smokeview shortcuts to the Start menu.

1 file(s) copied.
1 file(s) copied.
1 file(s) copied.
1 file(s) copied.
1 file(s) copied.

Adding c:\Program Files\FDS\FDS5\bin to the User Path (if absent) for:
FireBat

btw - The path is unchanged...and when I try to uninstall, I get:

Uninstall FDS and Smokeview

Press any key to proceed or CTRL C to abort

Removing the association between .smv and Smokeview
Access is denied.

Removing the FDS entry from the Start menu.

Removing C:\Program Files\FDS\FDS5\bin from the User Path for: FireBat
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration is in
correct. Please see the application event log for more detail.

Uninstall Complete. Press any key to continue.

So much for upgrading...
