by the way Gordon, it was great to "skype" with you today. i hope you
and Joanne had a great Tiree walk. next time you are on the beach
pick up some sand and let is sift through your palm thinking of good
wishes for the Cameron's of Tiree back on my homeland of Tiree
including this goofy little runner in Canada.
with all the running gigs that have been going on i need a "running
gillie" at the Cameron croft to get matters ship shape or should i say
canoe shape or as a well versed canoeist would say boat shape. no
kidding ... canoeists refer to their canoes as boats. i own two
boats! ; ) i gather you know by now i love to canoe (and run).
check out my "new" canoe http://ffdba.com:80/kipawa/kipawa.htm that my
son David and i picked up within 15 hours of returning from my STS
305km race.
i have always wanted a great tripping canoe, so when this opportunity
came up i was very pleased. i have a 12' fiberglass (black arrow x-
peterborough) and had a 16' fiberglass cordette ( i lost this last
summer while lining through the rapids of quetico ... it was a scary
scene ... i will blog this gig one day) both i picked up used within
the past few years.
the owner i bought the kipawa from down the road from guelph is such a
nice man. i am sure there must have been a bit of sadness in his
heart when my son David and I drove away. as we pulled out of the
driveway i spoke to my son David (he runs too) and said "watch as Lyle
walks to his front door and enters his house...he will not turn to
wave goodbye to us and his beloved canoe." Lyle did not turn to wave
goodbye. 60 minutes later i was solo in the canoe on the water. I
have been in touch with Lyle since. he is very happy it went to a
good home. Lyle did tell my son David that if he looked after the
canoe that one day his children would be enjoying the canoe too.
imagine ... four generations of canoeists. Lyle in his 70's had 20
hours on this canoe, but with a nagging shoulder injury it was time to
part. Lyle is quite the canoeist taking this boat into the big waters
of lake superior, followed by kayakers...who all turned back in fear
of the big superior swells, all but Lyle.
today i contacted the manufacturer and designer of my and kyle's
kipawa (it will always be kyles kayak to me)... in short i was
pleasingly advised by the manufacturer and the designer who was
personally involved in building this boat (not too often does a
designer actually get involved in building the boat): "as I thought,
your boat was definitely trimmed by the designer himself, you have a
very special one of a kind boat."
and from the designer: "i rarely built two boats alike and some look
very similar unless one looks closely. the redwing on the deck is
hand carved. the boat looks well cared for and it is nice to hear
people getting enjoyment from it".
yea, i love my family, friends, pet fish, running, my fellow runners,
my canoe, those that made my canoe and more ... i would also love to
get my croft back in order!
hey, by the way, i watched DVDs that arrived today of BM06 and
BM07 ... wow .... what a diff in the weather! let's hope that BM08
brings on more weather of BM06.
re: Steve's # 100 ... great tunes Gordon on the guitar. i think i am
going to venture to the Cameron croft front porch with my axe and
watch the sunset.
hey Steve, it is pronounced "Gw-elf" ( re: Guelph ) ... not Golf ! if
any of you goofy little runners are ever in Golf, drop me a line and
we can go for a goofy little run or track workout.
to Ruth and Matty "runner" ... i want to hear from you. my
"Richardson" family is from armaugh county, northern ireland to
eldorado, ontario, canada in 1831 re: john richardson and margrit
o'donell re: richardson gold mine, ontario, canada's first gold mine.
john and margrit are my gr. gr. gr. grandparents. in fact this
saturday after my daughter laura's dance recital i am off to a
"Richardon" 50th birthday party for mark, my 4th cousin who i have yet
to meet, but my son david and i met mark's brother paul on the start
line of guelph's (not golf's) Billy Taylor (Taylor - sept of Clan
Cameron ... in fact i owned Billy's home 1997-1999 when I first
started to run ... yes i believe there was a Billy "Ghost" in the
house that got me to run ... thanks Billy) 5km road race (6 days after
the 111th)...that's the race that my son first beat me ... i love
it! Paul and I never knew each other until then. we keep in touch
daily. by the way, John Richardson's father William was one of the
founders of the orangeman lodge of nothern ireland way back in the
late 1700's early 1800's.

by the way, imho, i don't love dr.phil and springer...what a pair of
jerks along with many other tv wierdos i don't see when i am out
running around.
congrats to # 100 Stever! love it! looking forward to # 1000 ...
17.3 years from now ; ) ... when i am 65 at the 128th BM
love life folks ... you only have one.
all the best, love, Scott "Richardson" Cameron - Guelph, Ontario,
Canada ... descendant of the Isle of Tiree, Scotland and Armaugh
County, Northern Ireland.
