I checked on my own 701 and can give you a definite answer - slightly
long but informative :-)
The FBReader cannot handle file names with the : character included -
probably a Windows 'thing' :) The Xandros distro on the 701 gives
any external (mounted) drive such as your USB stick a name like D:
(again probably to make things easier for Windows users using Linux
for the first time). This thus stops the USB stick data being handles
by this reader :(
A simple solution, other than simply copying the files to your local
folder (as you have already done), is the following:
Go to the folder on your USB stick using the file manager. Create a
new folder (eg. ebooks) to hold your ebooks and move any ebooks
currently on that stick into that new folder. Then right click on that
folder name - and select 'create symbolic link'. OK, then change the
link name to something like /home/user/usb_ebooks - note NO :
character - and press OK.
Now, in the FBreader itself, try to add an ebook as usual. If you look
for /home/user folder yuo'll see the usb_ebooks folder. Select and
press OK - you'll NOW be able to select the actual ebook!
The link *should* still be there when you remove the USB stick and
thus available next time you use a USB stick.
I hope this has helped
