Not able to read prc files on my Archos 5 internet tablet. I have been
using the FBreaderj but it does not open this file.

Please help.

Manu,

According to the release notes, the current version of FBReaderJ can
read epub, oeb (open ebook) and fb2 (fictionbook) formats. Mobipocket
files are not supported in FBReaderJ.

Mobipocket .prc files are supported on the full FBReader, but only the
non-DRM ones as I understand.

Regards,

Kevin

From the release notes for FBReaderJ 0.5.0: "Experimental Mobipocket
format support has been added. FBReaderJ support only modern non-DRM'd
Mobipocket books."

The ebook you reference probably is in the "modern" MobiPocket format
(i.e. it has the metadata needed by FBReaderJ), but all ebooks you buy
from mobipocket.com have DRM (i.e. are encrypted).

It is possible to strip the DRM from MOBI ebooks. The best source for
information about DRM issues are the forums at mobileread.com.

In this case, I'm not sure if a DRM-free version of "The Clinical
Medicine Consult 2009" would work well using FBReaderJ. This depends
on how it implements "hyperlinks and topics". Note that once it is
DRM-free another option worth trying (if necessary) is converting to
ePub using Calibre and then reading with FBReaderJ or any other ePub
reader for Android.

Thanks AlanW!

I hadn't realized that mobi/pdb files are supported. I've tried a few
non-DRM'd books from Baen and they work well on my phone (HTC Magic
with FBReaderJ 0.5.23).

Regards,

Kevin
