Maemo (http://maemo.org) has just released beta of v2.0 SDK and Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition. In case you are one of those brave ones, you can install FBReader using new Application Manager. What you need to do is: * open the menu * choose Tools * choose Application Manager * click on the title bar to open the menu * select Tools * select Application Catalogue * press New * in the Web Address field put 'http://only.mawhrin.net/fbreader' (without apostrophes) * click OK * click Close * click OK on the question "Refresh package list?" * after selecting the connection and updating the list you will return to the main screen of Application Manager * click on "Install new applications" * you should see fbreader-maemo2, double-click on it * click "Ok" * click "Ok" (of course, if you trust us enough to install the software :)) * after some time (downloading and installing) you will see a dialog "Select location", click on the button next to "Location:", select location for FBReader, click "Ok", click "Ok" * it says "fbreader-maemo2" successfully installed * click "Ok" * close Application Manager
Now you are an owner of FBReader on the new platform :)
Known limitations: icon is not exactly the application icon (I'm trying to figure out what has changed, but...)
To make it clean, the url to be put into 'Web Address' field should be http://only.mawhrin.net/fbreader/maemo/, the previous address will work for some time, but will be gone after the next release of FBReader.
That is awesome Misha- I think you are the first one out with a new app for ITOS'06.
I installed FBreader and am happily reading away. Its quite a conincidence that the ONLY applicaton that made me hesitate for a few moments before installing the beta was FBReader-- and you have it PORTED WITH HOURS. Cool. Thanks a lot for your work.
I will need to work on that :( libenca package (which is required for fbreader to run) was just re-compiled, and for offline installation it needs to be modified. I will try to fix it later today and post updated instructions here.
Well, I did some changes like color of font and background, scrolling... After i close FBreader and reopen again, it came back to default. Also, when i am opening reader, it always shows me default screen with help text.
1. do your settings stay if do just this? (without opening another book) 2. how do you close your application? (menu:close, or [x]) 3. do you use the latest version? (just to make sure)
