Just wanted to note that I blogged this news at Internet Tablet Users
blog (http://www.internettablettalk.com/blog/?p=258) and Teleread
(http://www.teleread.org/blog/?p=4710 ).

I haven't made any secret of my admiration for FBReader -- I hope it
continues to improve and to spread to other platforms.

Which reminds me -- can you share any of your plans to add formats or
platforms?

Thanks,

Roger

Yes, I can.

About platforms: currently I working about port for GPE
(http://gpe.handhelds.org). In fact, version for OpenZaurus/GPE is
almost ready, I hope to release it next week. Another device planned to
support in near future is Archos PMA430. (This device runs Qtopia and
is very like to Sharp Zaurus.)

About formats: I plan to add support for OEB and CHM files. And maybe
for OpenReader format.

If you have any suggestions about another platforms/formats -- you're
welcome. ;)

I would like to suggest non DRM'd mobipocket books, which would support
for example one of the downloadable Baen books formats. Opie-Reader
already has support for mobipocket books, so sourcecode on what was
done there should be possible.

Thanks,

Hello, Nikolay. I'm really thrilled to hear from Roger Sperberg that
you'd like FBReader to include OpenReader (openreader.org), among other
formats.

Once you firm up your plans, please let us know immediately, and the
OpenReader Consortium's site will then write up your program and do a
link to your site. What's more, you should feel very free to contact
Jon Noring (j...@openreader.org or j...@noring.name) if you have
questions about the format. He is OpenReader's founder and interim
director. Please cc me at davidr...@openreader.org when you write
Jon and do the reverse when you write me, so we can make sure the
letters are noticed (we both have extraordinairly busy mailboxes).

After your commit for certain to OpenReader, we can publish regular
items about FBReader in the TeleRead blog (teleread.org/blog). At
TeleRead I want to spotlight all good implementations of OpenReader,
not just OSoft's. Roger is already writing about you for the TeleBlog,
but I think it would be cool to have newsy FBReader articles once a
week. You could send e-mails to me, and I could adapt the reports to
the style of the blog. Or perhaps the info can go to Roger. One way or
another, we'll work this out. Keep in mind that the blog has a mix of
technical and nontechnical readers. So we could publish nontechnical
summaries on the home page, pointing to the technical details on
another page. While we'd be especially interested in OpenReader-related
content, you would also be free to write about the adoption of FBR's
own format--such as new books issued in it. In addition, we can
establish an FBReader category within WordPress, so TeleBlog readers
can more easily find FBReader-related articles.

Meanwhile I'm taking the liberty of posting this note to the list in
case others have ideas or would like to volunteer in writing
FBRreader-related articles for the TeleRead blog. Incidentally, the
blog is not an official part of OpenReader but rather a group blog that
evolved from my personal blog.

In a somewhat related vein, yesterday I saw a Nokia 770 at CompUSA (a
retail chain) and I was very impressed by the potential of the 770 for
e-book reading. The screen is just as awesome as Roger has written.

Cheers,
David Rothman
