If a person is considering a divorce, now is a great time to file. I
could write an entire essay as to why, but I will not. Instead, I will
remind you that the courts divide assets and debts between husband and
wife. In this economic environment, assets are down and debts are up.
A moneyed spouse in a dead marriage would be foolish not to file now.
At the very least, a separation agreement should be considered in a
dead marriage. Such an agreement in writing can "lock in" to the
benefits described above, but still give a couple some time to either
reconcile or proceed with an uncontested divorce when they are
emotionally prepared.
