Vermont bike tours

Hi Travelled Cyclists... has anyone toured Vermont in the fall time? Loaded question right? I’m sure this group must have tons of great ideas… Looking to go in the late summer early fall for a posh “Inn to Inn” bike tour for about a week, 50-60 miles per day, prepared meals, wine/beer tasting. Backroads... guided tours looked promising.

Please forward suggestions or experiences that might help me decide…

Two years ago Karen and I biked north of Burlington and then east over to north side of Mt Mansfield/Smugglers Notch area in mid Sept. for a full week +. Followed bike map/numerous back roads with near peak to peak in the Smugglers Notch Stowe area. Beautiful Farm land and wilderness. That region all the way to border is great biking and maps and terrain discriptions were very accurate. Think we got them from Internet search? We cycled on roads but also a long rail trail up in that region.  Burlington was also very bike friendly. Have also ridden in the Kelly Brush Ride starting at Middlebury College in early Sept. nearly 1000 riders with rides from 25-100 miles. Covering area from Middlebury to Lake Champlain and north then loop continues back to Midd. A great event. No big climbs and spectacular scenery. May want to contact the Ski Rack in Burlington. They have a great expert cycling dept in addition to their expert ski dept. Good Luck. Roger.

Vermont is a beautiful state.  Bill & I have been there 3 times with bikes +\- dogs.  Great cycling routes all over: hilly/mountainous and flat.  The actual road quality is variable from packed dirt to nice asphalt.  Lots of poorly cared for roads, but the motorists are usually very accommodating.  We have never done the guided tours.  We've usually stayed in one place & done different nearby rides.  Regardless, you should have a great time.  Vermonters are big on being active & good eats.

Christina and I took this tour last Sept for our honeymoon. We both enjoyed it a lot. The route was well laid, distance and difficulty not too much (but we were there for more then just riding our bikes...), accommodations and food far better then we would do again. The two tour guides were very experienced and worked with the various needs our group developed. Andy.
